Custom Shop??

Here in Austin, TX we have a problem with custom shops. If you want a few mods done on your car you need to stop by more than one shop to have it done and maybe pray that you dont have problem afterwards. I have been playing with the idea of trying to open a unique custom shop and bring more of the car scene to Austin.

I came up with a set of question, please feel free to answer to anyone who is interested!

1)Is Austin, TX missing out on the Custom Auto Scene?

2)Would you visit a custom shop that gives you a true sensation that you’re in a SEMA auto show more than your typical small mom and dad shop?

3)Would you prefer to visit a store with the actual product in-house or a store that needs to place an order for you half of the time?

4)Would you prefer to see interactive stations informing you the customer about the product in a fun way instead of just seeing the product hanging from a wall (boring way)?

5)Engine modifications, Exhaust Modifications, Car Body Modifications, Wheel & Tires, Audio/Electronics, Window Tinting, Alarm Setup, Dyno testing, Car detailing, Showroom, Interactive stations, would any of these services attract you to the store?

6)What would attract you to visit an Auto Custom Shop?

7)Do you believe the showroom display of a nice showroom car will attract you to visit the store?

8)Do you believe interactive stations and more information about the product will make you more interested in visiting the store?

9)Why would you modify your car?

10)What would be your first modification if you where to do one today?

11)Would you drive from other nearby towns to see a unique custom auto store? Or do you prefer to keep going to you nearest shop?

I'm not from Austin but I do have opinions on custom shops...

1. N/A

2. I would visit it but I wouldn't necesarily (sp?) have any work done there because of that.

3. Depends...if it's a part I need really bad at that moment I want to be able to walk in and walk out with the product. If it's something like headers for example I'm going to look for the best deal and order it if I have to.

4. I dunno...I get bored watching infomercials. If the info was from an independent company and gave pros and cons of the product I would watch it. But these info things better change of I'll get bored with them.

5. Anything my friends and I can't do in his shop will attract me to the shop...but the big ones are engine mods, tinting, bodywork, and of course the dyno.

6. Specialization. For example I'll probably be getting an LS1 F-body in the spring I'm not going to take it in just anywhere for serious mods...I'll be taking it to Speed Inc. They're known for their work in LS1's.

7. It'll get me in the store that's for sure, but probably just to drool over.

8. No, not really. It would be nice if I was already there for something to be able to check out some automated thing. But I would come in if you were kinda close and you had very knowledgeable employees.

9. Speed.

10. I don't have anything worth modding right now, but when I get me my F-body it will be Lid, Headers with true duals, and a 3500 stall. That'll all be done at the same time.

11. I won't go just to see a custom shop, I'll go to have my car worked on, but only if I can trust the people working on it.

I think so too...if you're going to be opening one the most important thing for my friends and I taking our stuff in is TRUST. We can do most of the stuff ourselves or have my one friend's dad help out but if he can't it's usually something pretty big so we take it some place that we know will get the job done right.
