95 astro 4.3 with 90k all of the sudden without warning. idles roughly and bogs down at acceleration. today i gave it a tune up plugs/wires/cap/rotor/pcv/fuel filter and air filter...runs a slight bit better but still not right. my computer isnt showing any codes except 12. and my check engine light is not on. im going to pull the ignition mudule and have it tested at auto zone next. any suggestions where to go from here if the module isnt to blame. the van doesnt stall..or at least hasnt yet. it kind of feels like a vacuum leak but i dont see any lines that could be leaking. im baffled...help!!!

update...i replaced the ignition module and the ignition coil...autozone had them fairly cheap so i figured what the hell....guess what? still no difference. what now?

Check your fuel pressure.
I'd guess that it's either your pump or your injection spider.

where can i find the procedure for testing the fuel pressure? im going to check the egr valve next...ill try cleaning it and see if that helps. but i will also check the fuel pressure and go from there if i could figure out how to do it.

I had a similar problem with my Astro - but had higher mileage when it occurred (138,000). From what I could tell it was an internal leak in the injection spider system (possibly the fuel line inside the throttle body). The extra fuel caused a rich condtion and the engine stumbled on start up and idled irratically sometimes - no engine codes. Driving around was no problem so I ignored it for quite awhile. I had to get it fixed before a long trip and it is very expensive ($900 + at GM dealership for all new parts w/warranty). There is an cheaper alternative rebuilt unit with all parts you need that you can get from Linder tech in Indy, Indiana, which is what I would have done given the time - they are on the web. You would have to have someone put it in for you unless you know how to do it yourself. The fuel pump should be checked out first since its part of the system - located in gas tank and not cheap to replace either due to labor dropping and draining the tank.

Hello,
I had a 91 Astro with 356,000 miles then it started to do the same as your's did... It was a intake manifold gasket leak... Sold it...

i pulled egr valve and it wasnt bad...cleaned it out and cleared out the manifold by reving the crap out of it with egr off. it wasnt really dirty like i thought it would be. the check engine light went on...about f#@$% time! put egr back on and it runs a very little bit better. still running like ass. check engine light is now off...no codes again. NICE COMPUTER GENERAL MOTORS! anyways gonna check fuel pressure this week as my saga unfolds. at this point with the dog house off it runs like an old v8 with a lot of miles....sounds like my old ford full size van from the 80s. except has 1/4 the power. doesnt stall and it starts right up. just doesnt have the power it had before.ive heard these motors have compression issues. i hope its the fuel pump....im thinking maybe the catylitic converter is clogged also. i love this van and need it on the road with its new serius radio and new tires!!! i will put a new motor in it if need be...thats how much i need this astro.

One way to find out if you do have a intake or carb gasket leak is... start your van up...let it idle and open the hood...As it's idling irratically... spray starting fluid towards the carburator...If the engine purrs like a cat at that time... you have a gasket leak around the intake or carb....

will that work on a fuel injected engine? isnt that a bit dangerous? anyways my cousin works for gm and is giving me acces to some gm tools, im going to check the fuel pressure this weekend (prolly on xmas...when hes here...heard its really easy with factory guage...just pops on the fuel rail test port). its been cold here and i work a lot and havent had much time to work on this van...plus my 66 olds in the garage has a dead battery and i dont really want to let it sit outside to long. i bought a tarp and its time to get serious about the van. its fix or sell time. im hoping its the pump or a clogged cat. i think the egr is leaking now since i cleaned it (it was really cold when i popped it back on...and did it at night outside) one of the bolts was a little stripped so i think i need to re-tap it and tighten that up also. because it sounds like a little exhaust leak now. it seems to idle ok now...but when you hit the brake before putting it in gear it dives and stummbles.
