I was just wondering what you guys think, do you think a 92' Stealth R/t (non-turbo) 5 speed can take a 2005 Focus ZX3 5-speed?

I've smoked a few Focus SVTs but never ran a ZX3, my wife has though.

just look at the numbers, the zx3 makes what 130 hp at the crank? the Mitsubishi 3.0 DOHC makes 222. thats about 170 at the wheels, still alot more then the ZX3.

well as much as musashi doesn't like to hear about it, mitsu over rated their engines, so it's more like 210 HP... which does relate to about 180 190ish WHP

EDIT... I don't remeber where I saw it... but I think there was a figure that said something like; for FWD you loose 12% of the HP your engine makes while transfering the power to the wheels, RWD is like 15-17% and AWD is like 18-20% ??? I don't member exactly, but it's something like that

Really? 210HP? Hmmm... I raced an SL with some mods about a year ago and I beat him pretty good. About a car length and a half maybe...

We started from a slow roll... not sure on his year... it was dark. He had intake from what I could hear and exhaust. Pretty sure he was MT.

LOL to kinda get the thread back on track. A RT will own a ZX3. A friend of my brothers, who I also know very well has one. I was coming home one night cruising at about 70 when he comes up from behind and starts pacing me and racing forward. I said screw it and dropped the hammer. Didnt let up till 130 and his headlights were just a spec. I didnt realize who it was till he caught me again once I got off the bypass and gave me a friendly honk as I turned off the road I was on.

I saw him a week later at the bowling alley and he just laughed. He said he didnt figure he could beat me but couldnt resist trying when he saw me in front of him on the bypass.

I actually "raced" him again later on. My car had a bad misfire problem ( I later diagnosed it as a bad rotor in the distributor) If I tried to go WOT the car would buck like crazy. He came up along side me on the same stretch of road and before and took off. I decided I wasnt gonna try it because of the misfire. Then after he had a good distance on me I said screw it and went 5/6's throttle. I quickly gained on him and passed him easily.

All this was done in a SOHC (if you didnt notice the distributor comment gave it away ;)) So a DOHC will have zero issues with a ZX3.

He had a passenger and so did I... from the get go he had a slight adavantage but as soon as I pulled that was all she wrote. Never got a chance to race him again 'cus he ended up turning. Maybe he didn't know how to drive? :dunno:

Its not that I dont like to hear that mitsu overrated the HP of thier cars. Its that if they did they only did it on the 3000GT. the EVO, the Starion, and the Galant VR-4 where actually underrated.

also the last time we spoke of this you said they make 200hp, now they make 210? Ive persoanlly seen stock or near stock 3s cars make the 220 mark on a dyno, Ive also seen them make way below but not everyone's car is running right !

No I have never ran it. I'm sure I'm dog slow though.....


Oh wait I used my BLITZ Meter once but I'm not too sure how accurate it actually is since it works with weight/power ratio and I just kinda guessed on the weight. I'm about 3 mph off when driving. the best run I did with the dash option was 15.9 and 16.0. Dog slow... Not on the best tires and not on the best road.

I plan on doing alot of modifications and actually running at the local track though in time. With nitrous and supporting mods I'm hoping for 11's.

Was the Base and SL rated the same HP? I don't understnd why some companies over-rate their HP figures... that sucks. The GT is one of my fave cars next to the Z32. Was the VR4 HP over-rated also?

There have been very very very few DOHC NA's to hit the 200 mark on the dyno let alone 220. Unless you are talking engine dyno. But how many people take there engine out to dyno?

And BTW the numbers for DTL are more like 18% FWD, 20% RWD, 25% AWD. Those are mostly guesses because DTL can be affected by so much more than driveline configuration. And it makes sense too. 210fwhp - 18% = 172 which is right around most stock numbers.

Last thing. This always irritates me when talking HP ratings. But peak HP doesnt mean squat if you cant use it. THe average HP and torque curve is what you should be looking at. Say soeone builds a FWD 3s to hit 250 peak hp. But that peak is at 6800rpm and its just a spike. Great now you have a bragging number. But your car is only able to pull a 14.5 because the torqe curve is falling off too early. The theoretical car is only running times that a 190fwp car will pull. So is it special now?

Okay I will end my mini rant but lets learn another quick lesson from the great Carroll Shelby in a quote I love to use.

I said underrated. the starion makes 188-190 not 182 like mitsu originally said.

I'd really like to find out how much my car puts to the ground. There is a guy with a ATX SOHC on 3si with less mods than me and made 145FWHP. Maybe once I get her all healthy again I'll hit up Slow Boy since they are the closest dyno to me that I know of, and get a few runs in.

Speaking of Starions. There is a guy in my area with a Conquest that has the power to put him in the 8's. :eek: The car is street legal too. He cant hook up for crap though. I guess the 4G63 swap helps too. ;) :lol:
