I think somethings broke under there. When I get some free time l8r this week i gotta put it up and inspect it. My dads friend owns a little gas/repair station. Theyre running an oil/filter/lube special i might have them look it over. be easier on a lift prolly. but when ever i take off with the wheel turned "CLUNK"!! Turn the wheels to park or pull out "CLUNK"!! on some slow diving bumpy roads "CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK"!!!!!!! I dont drive highways at all ne more. I figure i'd rather crash at 35-45mph than 75-85mph, if there is actually a broken part. plus since i replaced my gasket i was gonna do 1 more oil/filter change, just to be sure its all clean in there.

Ah! Motor mount, Sometimes when I start it up the motor seems like it also makes a big clunk noise(only way to describe it). But not everytime , it seems so far only on extreme cold days.

We had a problem with a loud clunk when we shifted into reverse and started backing. Turned out to be a loose bolt underneath that needed replacing.

Could be a torsion bar insulator.

Easiest way to check motor mount is jack up the side of the engine and while lifting it watch for seperation of the rubber from the plate.

I have the same problem. Last weekend I took of the front wheels to inspect and found that my inner cv boot was torn and the grease was flung out. Thinking The Cv was shot and that I would do the job in another week or so, I took the liberty of lubing the chassis and rack while I had the wheels off, (mind you I didn't touch the CV). When I put the wheels back on, the clunk was gone just from lubing the chassis. Bizzare!
Any ideas what is actually clunking in my case?

you can leave the hood up, power brake, and the motor will lift on the bad side if it's a motor mount. ours was clunking and it was the torshion bar mounts shot, but also like was stated it may need a lube job.

I love my Blazer! I really do. She is my most favorite vehicle ever to date. But I also Hate it!! I look out the window down at her. And I wanna cry. I think about running outside and smashin her with an alliminum baseball bat!!! So much trouble. Never in perfect running health. always 1 thing or another. Fix this. That brakes. Aarghh!! But i will fix it all and take her abuse. Shes like an alcoholic Mother. She is so mean and nasty. And All I wanna do is make her feel better. I actually believe I can fix all her problems.

GirlBear, You have a wonderful way with words, When it comes to your truck. I've never heard it explained to me quite like this before, and I think like it........

If you have not fixed it yet try closing a sweat sock in your hood on the passenger side near the antenna and see if the clunk goes away. Fold it so it is a little thick and close it in the gap so it sticks out. If it works search the post for clunk fix. It might be a sticky posted at the top of this fourm or the Jimmy fourm

The easiest way to tell if it is a broken motor mount is to start the engine, set the parking brake, apply maximum pressure to the brake pedal, shift into drive, and gently give it some gas while someone watches the engine. In my case, on my old '89 S-10, you could plainly see the engine lift up off of the mount and the fan blades started hitting the fan shroud. The key word here is gently, do not gun the engine too hard. If the mount IS broken, and you see the engine lift up, let off of the gas immediately!

if its a loud clunk coming from your floorboards,it will your torsionbar moving in and out of your lower control arms!!!!,,,you will need to check your front end for loose controlarm bushings, then check torwards the back of the torsionbar to see if its moving to and fro(use a good light to see rub or bump marks)you must minamize this movement,4 s10's in 10yrs and i'm glad gm finally gave up on these trucks!!!!!!!!!

They are torsion bar insulators. Could be your problem.
