97 DX, dunno if it has same type milage but I can usually push it to 320 miles to a tank. if I wanna be runnin' on fumes. My light usually comes on around 290 miles, depending on how I've been driving also.

The light doesn't come on until you're REALLY empty. I dont think you can check to see if the light works, it should just be one of those things you hope you never have to see. Btw, you shouldn't run your tank almost empty, less than 1/4 full puts stress on the fuel pump.

As for mileage, I have a 2000 non-vtec (DX) and I got 30mpg city (about 12.7 Km/L) average in the summer, I rarely ever used AC though.

I have a 98 lx (manual) and I usually get between 36 and 38 mpg. I have a CEL on for the cat and o2 sensor so it has dropped to 33 - 34 mpg. After years of worrying, I'm not bothered with the gas light anymore (it has never come on) I just fill up when I hit 300 in the winter and 350 in the summer.

98 ex coupe (d16Y8) use recommended octanei am only getting about 26 mpg. i know it is bad. i have changed my fuel filter, ran injector cleaner (fuel additive) keep up on maintenance , changed air filter, have a new oem CAT, and o2 sensor. i have even changed my driving habits i used to get around 30 mpg. this is with no highway driving. i have gotten over 40 mpg with all highway driving!!i think i might need new injectors. i suppose one injector failure can cause this much decrease. i have put the Lucas fuel injector treatment. that bumps me up to about 27-28mpg. what do you guys think.

Thanks for the tip. I'll keep the empty thing in mind. Although, now I'm at 305 to the tank and the light hasn't even come on yet where as sometimes it'll come on at like 285 or so. But i think i'm gonna start ignoring the light too and just filling up when it hits a certain milage. I figured being close to empty could mess up the car, but wasn't exactly sure what it would mess up.

TITLE:
Charting the Fuel Gauge and the Low Fuel Indicator

APPLIES TO:
1998-03 Accord, 1996-03 Civic, or 1999-03 Odyssey

SERVICE TIP:
If an owner is leery of the fuel gauge or low fuel indicator accuracy and worries about running out of fuel, you may be able to restore faith in the accuracy of this hardware by charting the operation.

If the fuel gauge, the low fuel indicator, or both doesn't give your customer a warm, fuzzy feeling, don't replace the fuel gauge or the sending unit until you've first charted the fuel gauge needle position and low fuel indicator status. You rarely improve accuracy by replacing fuel gauges and sending units. To chart the fuel gauge needle position and the low fuel indicator status, do this:

1. Have your customer bring in the vehicle when the fuel tank is nearly empty.

2. Drain any remaining fuel from the tank.

3. Park the vehicle on a flat surface, and add 2 gallons of fuel to the tank with the ignition switch turned to LOCK (0).

4. Start the engine, and note the fuel gauge needle position after 2 minutes . Draw a picture of the fuel gauge showing the position of the needle. Also note on your drawing if the low fuel indicator is on or off. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

5. Add 2 more gallons of fuel to the tank. Start the engine, and note the position of the needle after 2 minutes . Draw another picture of the fuel gauge showing the current position of the needle. Note the status of the low fuel indicator. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

6. Repeat step 5 until the fuel tank is full. Then give your customer all of the pictures you've drawn. They're usually enough to convince even the staunchest Doubting Thomas.

99' Civic Si, I usually fill up at around 350 to the tank. Most I took it to was 370. Typically fuel light comes on for me around 340ish. The fuel light should come on with around 1.5 gallons left.
