i have a 88 civic that did;t want to start and it was because of the battery fuse was blown, so i changed the fuse and now the car starts good, but the brake lights won;t go off, its like if i were pressing the brakes but im not, and this happens eve when i turn the car off, also my broher drove it around after it happened and he said that he heard like a grinding noise when he pressed the brakes.

id first check the brake switch, then check the return spring on the brake pedal to see if its coming all the back when depressed.

the brake switch is located under the dash, and the return spring is connected to the brake pedal by the floor.

it is under the dash connected to the pedal by a rod of sorts, it looks like a lil block box.
