I don't know much at all about computers. i want to get a computer for home use, but something that isn't going to be a "peice of furniture" I've been thinking about a laptop. The only thing I plan to do is surf the web with it.

Would a lap top work out for me?

all you want to do is surf the web?? the public library has computers that you can go and do that for free...you don't have to spend a nice chunk of change...unless you want to look at porn, which you probably do, jus playin.

Give a little more details. If you're only surfin' the web...at home...then get reg comp. They're cheaper.

If all you want to do is surf the web with a laptop, I highly recommend going for a unit that has top shelf engineering.

I personally would be looking at a Sony Vaio or a Fujutsi S Series that has a P3 processor, 20G HDD, 256mb RAM and would expect to pay roughly $400 AUD for a good one, or $250-300 USD.

I would run a stripped down version of Windows XP, with the firewall enabled, and a decent antivirus like NOD32.

Add a PCMCIA wireless card, and setup a home Wireless network for true surfing freedom.

Hope this helps, any other questions, fire away.
