'97 coasting hesitation type feeling

Just bought a 97 MGM LS a few days ago with 75K. Great car. Just noticed today that the car seems to downshift early when coasting. Or at least that's the feeling I get -I guess the best way to describe it is when I'm coming up to a light or a turn and coasting at about 40-35 MPH there seems to be some heisitation or the feeling like the brake was lightly tapped. Or like the feeling when you downshift a little early and kind of sets you forward in your seat a bit. I checked the tranny fluid - it it was veeerrrry clean - almost seemed too clean - like, not red - more of a translucent pink color. ???

any ideas?
