My sons car died on him while he was driving. It turns over but will not fire. When i turn the ignition i do not hear the humming noise of the fuel pump. Is there a fuse for the fuel pump, if so where is it located. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Exact same thing happened to my car about a month ago. Mine is the 94 quad 4. If you cannot hearing the humming of the fuel pump when you turn the key on and not start it then it's the fuel pump. Depending on where you take the car, it can cost anywhere from 450 to about 665. I paid 665 because part of my filler neck rotted off. As long as the car isn't rusted real bad underneath in the back you should be fine. I'm almost guaranteeing it's the fuel pump. Hope this helps. By the way I don't know if there is a fuse for the fuel pump. But just get a fuse tester kit, costs like $12 and the fuses are located on the drivers side right near door on the side of the dashboard.

In the 96 there is a 20amp fuse in the engine compartment fuse block called F/P INJ ... this controls the injectors and the fuel pump relay which must activate for the pump to turn on for that initial two seconds which is controlled by the PCM. The relay is located in the engine compartment on the passenger side strut tower. If the fuse is good, then with power applied you can quickly short pin "A" to pin "30" of the relay receptacle (look under the relay to see the pin designations) and you should hear the pump activate. Pin "A" should be pink or pink/black and pin 30 should be gray. If you hear a hum then the pump is working and it is the relay. And just for the heck of it, does it have gas in the tank? Good luck and let me know how it goes ... Bill

Not positive about this, but mine runs at about 1000 rpms anyways. Try a couple other things like a new fuel filter or there could be water in the tank, there is stuff i forgot what it's called but it turns the water in the tank into a burnable liquid. Give those a shot. When I first got mine the car would die to about 500 rpms then shoot itself back up to 2000. This was all on it's own too and really i have no idea what it was doing, but if yours is doing anything like that give what i said a shot, it won't hurt either way.
