ways to check if AC works?

i just got a camaro, and i want to check if the AC works or not.

its a 98 camaro

i live in PA, so it is obvously cold this time of year, so i cant do the "turn on the cold setting, feel the air, then turn the ac on and see if it gets colder trick"

so is there any other way?

I turned it on earlier, and i didnt see any RPM flucuations.

I know on my other car you could pop the hood, and see the ac compressor clutch grab.. but i didnt do it with the camaro... but i remember on my old car, that if it was like so cold outside the AC wouldnt even kick on.. so is there a way to tell?

the outside temp shouldnt have any effect on wether or not the AC is running or not. When you turn it on, the AC compressor should start spinning, and your second cooling fan should activate. You could always find someone with a heated garage, and go in to test it. or take it to the dealership and have them check your system with a dealer inspection.

i assume the fan wolnt be on all of the time, right?

So i should just start the car, and turn the AC on, and if both fans run, then i know the ac is working?

The air cond compresser should also run on the defrost mode to.
If comresser does not run or kicks on and off very often check freon charge and or other problems.

well, i used the defrost on it a few days ago, and it worked.. so i assume this means the AC is working?

Defrost working does not mean the air cond is working. You need to see if the air cond compresser is running when you have it on defrost.
