I have a 1987 suburban w/a 350. I spun a rear main bearing. came home on the hook. what do people recommend for a reman and where should I order it from. Also I am going to do the work myself (more time than money, and I love to wrench.) the old engine I got 267k out of it. body in good shape and new tranny and transfer case, tires etc. I would like to know tricks and shortcuts that mechanics on this board have confronted and over came. also what parts should be put on new. Should I replace the motor mounts, etc. thank you for your time on this matter.

Do an inspection on the parts.Stay away from Recon and the other cheap ones for a reman engine.Go with a Jasper engine by finding a Jasper dealer.Edelbrock sells one complete.Put in new spark plugs, oil and oil filter in.The cheap ones have the cheapest parts in them.Recon has the worst warrenty claim stuff.I have seen what what the cheap ones put in,Bearings made in Isreal, pistons made in Mexico.I have seen it,A jasper rep that comes in my father's shop brought in two bearing sets, one from Clevite made in USA and a cheap brand made in Isreal.Jasper puts in the Clevite set.Jasper puts in high quality parts from Federal Mogal and gaskets from Fel-Pro.Change the oil every 500 miles at first.

Thanks for the input. I am having one rebuilt locally. I will ask about the bearings and other parts that you mentioned. The gentleman who is building mine seems very honest and comes with good references. Has said he will wash and clean all the tin and actually assemble the tin back on. He is using a large capacity oil pump. I hope I can get at least 75k out of it before the rest of the rig falls apart.

I agree with wafrederick I dropped a Jasper 305 in my 89 chevy P/U 5 years ago and it's running strong. Called their toll free number ordered the engine they delivered it to my home within the week took my old engine and I was in business. Well worth the money spent, and the warranty is good they don't care who puts it in.
