2004 Town & Country Misfire

Please help. I have a 2004 T&C with 29,000 miles on it. It has misfired 4 times. The latest misfire upon starting in th AM shut off, restart same thing. Blue smoke billows out of the exhaust, but when it is taken to the dealer they don't get a code. This last time they told me that there was a leak in the gas cap. That can't be making the blue smoke billow out of the exhaust can it? I am soooo frustrated with this dealership, it seems that if there isn't a code, than supposedly there is nothing wrong with the vehicle. Whatever happened to common sense? They are replace the sparkplugs & wires previously....grrrr please help with suggestions.

The first thing you need to do is to find another Chrysler dealer and ask them to look at the car for you. Since you have a 2004 I expect it is still under warranty. Since Chrysler warrants the car not the dealer you should be able to get it worked on at any dealership. Based on your description I believe you have a serious issue with the engine. Blue smoke like you mention indicates that there is oil being sucked into the combustion chamber either through the intake manifold gasket or through a cracked head, bad head gasket or block.

If you can't get any satisfaction from another dealer then check with the district service manager, his number should be listed in the owners manual. I hope this helps you get this corrected.

My parents also have an '04 that is misfiring on the #3 cylinder. I'm guessing there is: either no compression in that cylinder for a couple reasons; the fuel injector is clogged or not getting voltage; wiring to injector is corroded causing there to be discrepencies in voltage going to injector. I get to take it in tomorrow because the check engine light's been on for a couple weeks. I'll let you know what the dealership says.

One thought. I have read that a stuck PCV valve or plugged line going to it can over pressurise the oil system and force oil out gaskets, seals, and into cylinders. If the spark plugs are fowled you'll get a misfire. It's a $3 part. Don't think there is a fault code that would be tripped for it. Beyond that, as GPT Dad said, find another dealer.

I define misfire as when usually a single spark plug does not fire for whatever reason. You'll feel a slight hesitation. Are you trying to describe a backfire? You'll feel a large surge or jurk. Is the blue smoke constant or just within a few minutes of starting? Which engine do you have?
