salty roads, cold cold weather!!!!?????

hey guys, i have no choice but to drive my car through out the winter. it usually gets to about freezing at day and usually nights. what things should i do to help it stay alive? what about rust from the salt on the roads? what about my turbo? will cold cold weather ruin it? any tips?? do i just let the sucker warm up 4 ever in the morning???

for the salt problem...just make sure you wash it about once a week at least, and when you do wash it, get the wheel wells and shit really really clean, anywhere where the salt could build up and start corrosion.

as for the cold weather, just make sure you let it warm up for about 5 minutes before you go anywhere...and if you can't let it warm-up for more than 1-2, don't get on it at all, just ease around town until it gets to normal operating temps. other than that just baby it like you would normally....like a dsm should be treated.

If you have one of the spray off car washes near you , go by there at least one time a week , spend the buck fifty or whatever and spray the undercarraiage and wheelwells to keep the road grime , salt etc from building up as well as just setting on the metal for a prolonged period of time. That is the best way to protect the undercarriage during the winter months that I know of outside of parking it in your garage and not driving it until spring.

I usually make sure that the car has a really good coat of wax on it as well just to protect the sheetmetal from all the winter road junk. One nice thing about living in the south, we dont use salt down here on the roads however the sand that is uesd most of the time if and when its put down can be a mess also.

Just keep the underside sprayed off as much as possible and you will be doing yourself and the car a great service.

My next door neighbor had a Talon Turbo. When he went to drive it in the cold morning the turbo stopping spinning. His mechanic Said that the cold weather actually split the turbo. Mind you this is in Canadian Winters which are very,very,very cold. I think that day it was like -35 and -45 with the wildchill (thats Celcius) BRRR....

i also drive in the winter. Make sure you have GOOD plugs and wires, last winter i had sucky ones, and it stutered all over. this year much better. Let it warm up for the love of god!!! the turbo HATES the cold

i put 3 coats of fresh wax on in november before it snows, this helps protect the paint from the salt. Also make sure in the fall that all little nicks and stuff and touch up, cause the winter will rust them. also might want to invest in some winter wheels, salt can kill them too. i use my chrome GST wheels lol. cause i don't care about them... keep my 18's in my closet
