Side view mirror problem

The driver side side view mirror on 02 yukon denali broke. Well it happened when I had it folded in and as I proceeded to fold it out it just popped, so know instead of it being nice and tight it's just floppy and loose it's not hanging over with and wires exposed and everyhting works fine. It's just the snap ring/lock that broke which keeps it in place. So has anyone had this problem, because a friend told me there was a fix for it, and GM is aware of it, and I was looking for some type of documentation on it and hadn't had any luck yet.

The same thing just happened to my 2001 Yukon. Passenger side, exact same thing. I put a thick black wire tie on it to keep it from bouncing around untill I can figure out the problem myself. The mirrors are too expensive to replace. Let me know if you find anything out.

Well, I told them about it and at first they said it was broken as if something hit it, but I told them that I broke by itself as there was no apparent damage to the mirror from an outside force. Basically they tried dumming me down and I let them know that I am not having it, and the mirror was a bad design and GM knows about it, and my warranty covers it so they agreed to fix it. I'm still waiting for their call because it had to go to the body shop for painting. It's been about 3 weeks now. I believe they said it costs about 450 odd dollars, but I seen the mirror for about 89 on a automotive website.

Did anyone ever figure out how to solve this problem? I had the same thing happen and just picked up a mirror on ebay. Cost me $50, but hey, atleast the mirror isn't flopping. Would like to know what GM is doing about this crappy design and snap ring.

I believe they've fixed the issue with the mirrors according to a friend I work with. He has the denali quadra steer sierra truck with the piston slap issue and other annoying problems Anyway they fixed my mirror, although I'm afraid to fold either side view mirror because they might break. However my friend said that its an easy fix because the snap ring is weak and it pops off causing the mirror to flop/wobble. you have to remove the mirror to get to the snap ring thats all i got/know.

I had the same problem on my 98 Yukon with both side mirrors, they were wobbly and then the inevitable happened, the mirror crashed into the side of the truck and smashed and all of the heating liquid spilled out so it was even more of a mess, other than a dangling broken side view leaky mirror. So I found replacement mirrors on 1AAuto.com for about 99 bucks a piece which came with no instructions on how to remove the old or install the new so I had to do some more research on the internet and found some instructions that were close (not for a Yukon but for a GMC van I think) and finally after a lot of pain and patience and trial (the screws are really short and there does not seem to be ANY tool capable of reaching the tight area you have to work with) I got it. Overall it was worth it considering dealer mirrors are 350 a piece and these are heated just the same.
