2001 Eclipse Electrical Problems?

I really need help. I have a 2001 RS Eclipse. First thing that went out was the clock. The next thing to go was my lighter and then my odometer. The odometer will scroll ahead a couple of miles and then reset back to the original miles it went stopped working at. My dad tried to change the fuse but the fuse would blow as soon as he placed it on. He even tried to place a higher voltage fuse but the same thing happened.
Now my low lights will not turn on. They went out suddenly so I know it is not the bulbs. The lights now come on once in a great while. I tried to replace the fuse but no luck. I then tried to replace the relay switch but no luck there either. When I was finished tinkering in the fuse box (and switched back to the original relay switch), I slammed my hood shut when my driver side light came on....I am soooo confused as to what is going on with my lights, clock, lighter, and odometer. Can anyone help me? :banghead:

One of your electrical accesory wires might be grounded on something. Although, that wouldnt really explain the blown fuses. Sounds like a power inverter somwhere is bad, or a bad transistor somewhere that is allowing too much power to go to the fuse block. IDK, take it to a mechanic and ask around. I doubt it is anythng that cant be fixed, although depending on what it is i have no idea of what it might cost. Best of luck

Definetly there is a short somewhere. It could be something that is pinching the wire as well. In my 3000gt I had a broken motor mount and everytime I would give it gas The motor would learn back and pinch the ignition wire and blow fuses.

the light thing might be somthing completly differnt it happend on my car
the metal prongs in the thing that conects to the bulb might be lose just bend them back so they fit snugly if that dosnt fix the headlight problem then it is electrical

My advice to you is to NOT fix the odometer problem. IMO that is a great problem to have. Hell, put 5 million miles on the car and sell it to some sucker dealership and say it has like 45K miles on it...how the hell would they know. LOL

Um it's called Carfax. Not to mention that if she took it to the dealership and she didn't fix the problem the dealership would know about it, and it's also illegal.

just say you don't kno and have them check the odo, its not lying if you "don't know"
and you can avoid having your car carfaxed like that if you get all of your work done by yourself or close friends w/ shops w/o computers, how in the world is anyone going to kno!?

Well if you have to take your car to get an inspection sticker or an emission test (if it is something your state does) then it would be pretty noticable because they all get the current mileage off the odometer. You go an entire year and put no miles on the car and something is going to be fishy

or negative miles!!! that'd be hilarious!!!, nah there are always people you can pay a little more for a botched inspection, everywhere, you look hard enough you can find them...though i'm not encouraging them doing so or any action which may cause you to find/use one

Well, I took my car in to the dealer and they told me that my odometer was defective. They are going to have to send the old one in with the new one to get the new one calibrated and then place the new one in. I told them that I would not pay for that since odometers just don't go out every day.
My cigarrette lighter is supposedly linked to my clock and they said I needed to replace the whole cigarrete lighter housing which should fix the clock. I ordered the part and am going to find someone to install it cuz they wanted to charge me like 95 dollars. I tried to take apart the console myself but I couldn't figure it out..I only found two screws on either side but it still won't come off. I have a repair manual but the illistration in it is for an older model eclipse...any hints on taking out my console to re-install my cigarrette lighter unit?????
I guess my lights on my car didn't work cuz I needed to change the bulb.....crazy huh! Why didn't I think of that. Well I didn't cuz they both went out suddenly at the same time. I decided to change the light bulbs myself when the connector ripped off. I asked the dealer if they would sell me the connector and they wanted to sell me the whole deal and with installation it is like 500 dollars.....CRAZY! I wish I had my dad here to help me but I am on my own. I finally got a connector via ebay and have yet to fix that...maybe I should just take it in so I don't break something else.....
AND NOW....my radio does not work. It won't come on at all....the dealer said it might be the fuse behind the radio. Anyone have any of these problems with their cars??? I guess when it rains it pours.

If you take the cup holders that are in the center console you will find some screws under there that you have to take off in order to take off the center console.Well, I took my car in to the dealer and they told me that my odometer was defective. Hello fairygrlz (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/member.php?u=410854).
Something like what happened to you happened to me yesterday with my Mitsubishi Eclipse 2001.
The lock for my rims felt on the cigarrete lighter and some sparks came out.(Kind of creepy)
Since then the cigarrete lighter and the clock do not work.
For what I read it seems like would need to change the whole cigarrete lighters and it would be fixed.
The questions are:
As you should now there are 2 cigarrete lighters on a 01 Eclipse. One that is under the radio/air condition panel and other in the middle compartment.
Do you change both?
Where did you get yours? Did you buy it on the dealer or on some shop online? (What exactly do you change?, cables or the metal part? or both?)
Is the instalation any hard?
It would be great help if anyone can give me a hand on this.
Thank you!
-Gabriel
