Hi, I need a little help with my 2002 Ford Explorer 4x4 SUV. The four wheel drive won't engage. The dashboard light wont come on and I assume this is because the four wheel drive wont engage...and I need a little info from you guys out there. We live in a great LITTLE town....not too much to choose from mechanic wise. If anyone has a suggestion I would appreciate it.....Thanks alot....CJ

hi i know this post is old but i had this problem with my 93 explorer and i went the th ejunkyard and got another dash switch and it solved the problem. when you hit the button do u hear any noise like its trying to engage if you don;t chances are its the 4x4 switch. our trucks are 9 years apart in age so i dunno if the sane symptoms necesarily mean the same thing.

CJ -- As of Friday morning, I have a $435 shift control module on order! Same problem with my 2002 Explorer XLT. Won't find out till tomorrow if covered by powertrain warranty (yeah, right!). Since purchasing this lemon Feb. 1 this year (less than 36K), I've had to: replace left front flange, belt tensioner (fortunately, caught those two within 24 hours of driving off lot, so at dealer's expense), cruise control pigtail, speed control electronic do-hickey, now this! And of course, I was stuck in a snow drift when I found this little jewel out!
