'97 Tahoe won't slow down

I own a 1997 Tahoe with about 58,000 miles on her, Vortec 5.7.
My problem is that when I lift off on the accelerator, the vehicle doesn't
slow down right away. The r.p.m. is about 1800 to 2200 (depending on how fast I'm driving).
When I brake, the speedometer and the r.p.m. start to drop, but when I intially lift off on the accelerator, the vehicle slowly slowly slows down.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for reading.....Romy

Romy, I also own a Tahoe. It's a '96 model. I bought mine new and it always has done the same as yours. I just considered it's the computer that controls the flow of gas and monitors it as you brake the vehicle.

Should I need to make a quick stop, I don't see any problem.

I have many times with my speed at 60 mph, let off the gas and the vehicle may take a mile to come to a complete stop without any gas to the injectors.

Thank's skeeterman, I thought I was the only one with that sort of problem.
Any idea's on how to rectify the cause ? Or, should I just live/drive with the fact that there is no real solution ?

Thank's again for reading.......Romy

Get it on a scanner and check out the base idle.
Make sure it is within specs.

I have no compression breaking on my Wife's 00 Tahoe either. My mom's 98 Blazer is exactly the same way. It's the gearing that doesnt allow for it. Drop it out of OD and that fat b@stard will slow down. Other than that, I dont really see it as a "problem", so I can't imagaine there's a "fix".
