'70 Boss 429 W/O Engine...HELP!!!

Hey everyone,
Recently i came upon a 1970 Boss 429. Body is in okkay condition, a little surface rust, interior needs replacin', and the steering column is a little shabby. I open the hood: BAM. No Engine. Regardless, i couldnt pass this baby up at a low low price of 3500 CAN. dollars. (i'm in canada:iceslolan )
Engine or not, still a great steal, eh? So my point is, im deciding what kind of engine to put in...i have no ideas...Could i get some assistance on what kind of setup i should run? Any and All ideas will be greatly appreciated, and ill kepp you all posted on this project and what i decide on. Thanks.

Well, for something VERY powerful and reasonably priced, consider a 460 or variation of one. It will bolt in where the Boss was.
Boss heads (also known as "Shotgun") are rare as hen's teeth. Whether or not they're worth it is open for debate. Mass amounts of low-end and mid-range power are attainable from the factory "D0VE" heads (that's a "zero", not an "o"). CJ heads will provide even more.
In short, the Boss would be cool, but not very practical. It also isn't as strong in street trim, as most of the power it makes is above 3,000 RPM.

on the other hand, Boss 429 cars are very rare these days, and it really deserves to have that semi-hemi between the shock wells

WHY would anyone hike the engine out of that car??? It's worth lots more together than that boss would be in anything else.
If someone really wanted a race engine, an aftermarket Ford big block would probably do better than 36 year old technology.
Still, it sounds like a great deal, though. Given the value of the Boss 429, its probably worth thousands extra to locate a 429 Boss engine if possible.

i think what you shoud do is try and find a 429 engine block im sure there are reproduction somewhere cus a original is gona br hard to find,look in mustang mags for specialist on stangs etc.people do say that the 429 wass not that fast which is weird cus on the list of top 50 fastest muslcecars the boss429 stang is higher then the shelby GT500.
infact it ran very low 13s acording to one mag.

hey all,
thanks for the suggestions. Ive decided to run a 427 Cobra from Ford Performance. hehe, im partial to them because ive already got one in my uncle's shelby. but as for now, i've just got the block. anyone have suggestions for carbs, manifolds, headers, cylinder heads, distributors, anything? i kinda want to bore it out a little, and make it a stroker. should i? thanks a lot, guys (and/or girls)

and you're sure it's a genuine car? Modified engine bay from KarKraft, etc... Numbers are right..

Before you run the 427 I'd check and see what prices are getting for boss 429 Mustangs that do not have their original engine in them go for. This should help you determine whether it's worth hunting for and buying a Boss 429 for it or not.
Then again, because Boss 429's were modified after Ford built them- were the 429 engines given a serial # to match the car? Is there a "#'s matching" 429 for each Boss 429 Mustang?

do you ever plan on selling this thing, if you do i'd go for a 429 because it will be worth alot more with that in it than with another engine. if you don't plan on selling it, go to town and buy something you like and do whatever you want to it. jegs has a 460ci engine with 500hp or 550hp for $5,999 and $6,235 respectively. I'd go with something like that, maybe not a completely assembled engine, see if buying all the parts and assembling it yourself is cheaper. whatever you do, just know where you want to go with this car, if you want to sell it, and how much it's going to decrease/increase in value if you do a certain thing.

do you honestly expect a 460 to fit in the engine bay? For even the 429, the battery was thrown into the trunk-you should know that. how could i get a 460 in?

it could use the same block as the 427, just bored and stroked. on the site, it says: "Looking for power at a great price for your project Mustang, kit car, truck or street rod?" so i would expect it to fit in the engine bay of a mustang. But i would also expect the guy to do some research and find out the dimentions of the engine and the dimentions of the engine bay before spending 6 grand on an engine.

Hello, I have a Boss 429 engine with Alum heads It was rebuilt about two years ago and has never been started, It was my fathers engine and he has passed away so i am now In charge of selling his toys, I have just started in the last couple of days to find out what would be a fair price for this very rare engine if anyone can point me in the right direction i would appreciate the help.
