I would be careful around any electrical fittings and the distributor cap. Other than that I don't see what it would hurt.

Use Simple green mixed 1:2. Let soak (on warm engine). RInse lightly without pressure. Let dry. Wipe down stubborn parts with simple green on a rag. WHen its all good and dry, get a can of
"CD2 Engine Detailer" follow the directionso n the can. Your engine will look great for weeks and weeks.

Dont get simple green around anything aluminum! Also I'd be careful around the wheel bearing area (voice of experince...new hub/axle assy's cost about $175). I use a hose and engine brite, seems to work better than the foamy stuff, also seems to work better if the engine is warm.

IMHO, SG is very safe around aluminum. You could drink the stuff if you could stand the taste (JK). I have used it for years and it does not pit aluminum like the engine degreasers I have used. It is biodegradeable and contains no acids.

Aluminum - Is it safe to use Simple Green on aluminum?

Simple Green products have been successfully and safely used on aircraft, automotive, industrial and consumer aluminum items for over 20 years. However, caution and common sense must be used: Aluminum is a soft metal that easily corrodes with unprotected exposure to water. The aqueous-base and alkalinity of Simple Green or Crystal Simple Green can accelerate the corrosion process. Therefore, contact times of All-Purpose Simple Green and Crystal Simple Green with unprotected or unpainted aluminum surfaces should be kept as brief as the job will allow - never for more than 10 minutes. Large cleaning jobs should be conducted in smaller-area stages to achieve lower contact time. Rinsing after cleaning should always be extremely thorough - paying special attention to flush out cracks and crevices to remove all Simple Green/Crystal Simple Green residues. Unfinished, uncoated or unpainted aluminum cleaned with Simple Green products should receive some sort of protectant after cleaning to prevent oxidation.

I agree. It is also a good idea to dress the engine immediately after cleaning, as with any degreaser. This puts a protective barrier over vital hoses, and metals.

I use the Windex Window Power Wash (it goes on a regular hose) about every six months. Works great...no problems!!! Gotta love a clean engine!!!

Personally, I use Scrubbing Bubbles bathroom cleaner on my engine. Spray it on, let it sit, then rinse it off. Leaves everything looking great!

I just use the enigne/tire cleaner at the carwash, let it soak then rinse it off when I do the rest. Works great unless it's really old baked on stuff.
