Winter Preperation

ive only had it since summer so i have no experience in this field. From the guys who have them and put them away for winter, what are the best things to do... like rust prevention, preping the engine to sit, the list goes on, but i dont know much. what do u guys do to put ur babies away... :uhoh: ?

wash the shit out of it and make sure everything is really clean. especially in the wheel wells and under the doors and shit where the rust usually starts.

You should try to leave only a 1/4 of a tank of gas inside the car. Make sure you have the oil changed before it sits and remember to disconnect the battery. And invest in a car cover.

1. Wash it
2. Wash it again
3. Give the interior a good vacuum
4. Change the oil
5. Put it on blocks or some alternative, just get it off the tires
6. Cover it with a tarp or car cover
7. Disconnect battery
8. Run the gas down to almost the E on these cars, you still have like 3-4 gallons after that. Throw in a bottle of gas line anti-freeze shit.
9. Set a mouse trap or two underneath, those bastards like to live in the engine bay and eat your plug wires.
10. Make sure and run it atleast once every 2 weeks or so for about 5 mins, just to get the juices flowin.

does it make any difference that im goinng to be doing a lot to my engine. and when i mean a lot, i mean new turbo, injectors, exhasut manifold, exhaust, cams, and much more. does that change anything to waht i prep the engine for? thanks for the info so far!

shoot forgot, im putting in a fmic, and i was wondering on the kind. I have in mind Slowboy and greddy. Does any1 else have any kinds they like. websites tell the stats, but u guys have them. Opnions on any FMIC of your choice would be nice! also more preperation lol thanks! :smokin:

those name brand ones are way overpriced..you can find a good core on ebay and buy a piping set for way less than you'll pay for a greddy/sbr one

What about a fmic is reliable? It's not mechanical...I'd say go with a cheap ebay fmic and buy your own piping from summit.

some ebay cores may not perform as well as others, but that's where you need to do the searching. there has been tons of information on here about intercoolers (try the faq, and then search) and you could also find some more at:

ok so ebay intercoolers are fine, but is the performace is good as the other brand names. do any of u guys have an ebay core? opinions... and does anyone have a greddy or sbr intercooler? opinions... and am i looking at same performace upgrades from the 2? thanks

I think the problem with eBay intercoolers arent as effecient. They dont flow as well and dont cool as well as the same size core from a name brand. I personally wouldnt worry too much about it, I'd get the eBay core and if it doesnt cool well enough when you get running more boost, get a new one.

How would you know that?

Someone on here just bought an ebay core. He put huge pics of it up along with the mandrel bends from summit. Lots of people on tuners have installed them too. But without doing tests there is no way to know if they flow less or cool as well. Like anything else though, they're less complicated than you would think.

They are also bar and plate. ebay>greddy. Also, even if it is not quite as good as the big name ones, it's about $300 total for the ic + piping. Compared to $800-1200. Even if it performs HALF as well, it's still a good deal.

Btw, all the intercoolers on ebay that look like the one I posted are the same I believe. There are two different sizes though so make sure you get the size you want. The bigger one fits the opening in the 2g bumper perfectly. You should pay about $200 and no more.

Notice on the ARE site the pictures look exactly like the ebay cores? My bro has an ebay core and it's really nice (better than the greddy on my talon)

so i think ima go with the ebay core. biggest size i can get, or if u go to big it doesnt work as well with a bar and plate? also, with the intercooler piping, i have an hks ssqv BOV i want to put in. does the piping come with a hole to mount, or am i going to have to do some fabrication. also do the ebay intercoolers come with piping?

You can buy kits with piping specific for the car but they are usually overpriced, But if you are unable to fabricate the pipes on your own this may be the way to go. To put you car in go to the top left of this screen and click "User Cp" and then "Signature" and type what you want.

You can get a used upper intercooler pipe for under $60 (my RRE one was about $30). Or get a new one for like $100 or something. They have a flange for a specific bov. And then buy some mandrel bends from a place like Summitracing.com to do the rest of the pipes. Get some couplers and worm or t-bolt clamps and you're set.

Just to be sure there's no debris or anything left in the ic when you get it, i'd put some gas in it and cup both ends and shake it up a few times. :thumbsup:

A mandrel bent 3" diameter pipe is 3" through the whole thing. It's not smooshed on the bend. The size ic in the links is good.

why is the evo 3 16g better? doesnt the big 16g spool faster with more psi?
