Idling too fast.

I have a 99 Ford Escort that if you rev the engine it stays reved up for a few seconds, then slowly decreases enging speed to a normal idle. Check engine light is on. Checked codes on computer and the code says the idle control valve is bad. I replaced the valve, but the problem persists. Any ideas?

sounds ike a bad throttle positin sensor or throttle plate it sticking open. Could also a leak some place.

Unlikely since the car is failrly new but check that the throttle cable isn't hanging up.

If you take the air filter off you will see the carburettor and if you look to the sides of it youll see two cables one is for the choke and the other is for the accelerator.
With the engine rumming pull on them both in turn youll hear the engine rev and youll also notice that they are connected via a pin going through the carb.
On the accelerator side you will see a grub screw acting as a stop for the accelerator pully turn it slowly and listen to the engines idle.
This screw is the idle adjuster.

You get a "A" For Effort man. But he has a 1999 not a 1899. His car is fuel injected, SEFI fuel injection to be exsact.

Since the IAC valve was checked out allready, I would make sure the Throttle body is snapping back all the way closed. If that does'nt fix it I would look for vac leak around the intake manifold, and dont forget about the EGR valve.

your throttle may be getting caught and not returning very fast, so the computer thinks its the IACV. Since the IACV has been checked, pop your hood, start the car, have someone rev it and watch your throttle body to see if it snaps shut or moves slowly.

does it do it all the time or only when u first start it? i know my car does that when it is worming up but once the temp gets up there it stops. maybe it is the same for your car. let me know.

I recently remembered that I had this problem on my other 99. Looked back through my receipts and found the the Ford dealer replaced the PCM (Powertrain Control Module). It cost me $425. I also found that I can buy the part for $130 but I don't know where to put it. I still have the other 99 so I thought I might swap the parts to see if the problem goes away, but I don't know where the PCM is. Anyone????

The PCM is in the passenger compartment inside the front of the center console which has to come out. It's got a bunch of wires running into it.
Swapping out parts before parting with your hard earned money is a good idea.

I thought the PCM was right below the airbox on the drivers side in the engine compartment?

No. It's in the front of the console, inside. You're thinking of the Constant Control Relay Module (CCRM). It is under the air intake on the drivers side.

The PCM is in the passenger compartment inside the front of the center console which has to come out. It's got a bunch of wires running into it.
Swapping out parts before parting with your hard earned money is a good idea.
