Should I keep my 2001 Trooper?

Hello fellow trooper owners. I bought my 2001 Trooper a little over a year ago. Since then my check engine light has not gone off, I have had my EGR valve replaced, and all the tubbing that goes along with it, it got a 90,000 miles tune-up, and get the oil changed REGULARLY. I just had a check engine diagnostic done on it and it says that the EGR valve is still broke and now the O2 sensors are broke. Not to mention that I am getting only 11 MILES PER GALLON!!!!!! The car almost has 100,000 miles. Should I look into getting everything fixed or trade it in for a more reliable SUV? I just don't want to put money into a car that is going to start breaking down because it has over 100,000 miles.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. (or any advice on the kind of SUV I should buy if I don't keep the Trooper?)

How is the idle? Is it running rough? May be your IMG's.

the 11 miles per gallon could be due to a bad o2 sensor (they don't all go bad, there is a code for each one).

EGR's typically never need to be replaced, only cleaned.

Has an Isuzu dealer been fixing your problems?

EGR issues on these engines 90% of the time can be fixed with a $3 can of intake cleaner, some clean rags, basic hand tools and 15min of time. As far as the O2 sensor issues, you have 4 of them. Which are showing a code? Like Marcre says, your air/fuel trim might be off due to a cracked intake manifold gasket also super common. Another thing you might want to consider is a $40 OBDII code reader from harbor freight tools (or the likes). It helps with the DIY diagnosis! Look thru Amigo-2K's FAQ's at the top of the forum main page. Trading in/selling the troop would be horrible, as resale value is nil (especially these days). If I were in the market for a new 4x4 SUV, with no 'zu's avail, I'd probably go Xtrerra, Pathfinder, Jeep, Sorrento or 'Yota if I won the lottery.

It idles really loudly. And when I roll up my windows (its electric) the car idles quieter, but the second I stop messing with the window buttons it sounds like its grinding something. As far as the RPMs go when I idle its probably sits around 1800. Hope this answer's your questions.

Throw the volume up on the radio, and it will be quieter yet! :grinno:

I agree that O2 sensor is a likely culprit for poor mpg

Fix it and KEEP it! With the help you'll get on this site you can fix it for little cost. If you sell it, you won't get anything for it these days.
