1998 Jetta GL

I have a 98 Jetta GL and has problems starting. I can start the car on the first try and other times it doesn't start at all for hours. If I have people push the car, pop the clutch and hit the gas it starts. I am not sure if I need to replace the coil, cranker sensor or computer? Once the car starts, it's fine. Has anyone else run into this?
