i have 2 questions

i'm trying to paint my celica white (ts26) but it came out to be an off white color... i used masters white primer... any reason why it came out this way?

and my last question deals with air compressors.. what's a decent air compressor that's under $150 US??? whats the difference between a hobby air compressors (badger, paasche) vs a traditional one (craftsmen, etc.)... thanks

As for you first question, what color is the plastic of the kit? The color of the plastic may be "bleeding" through the paint. This will happen even with primer if the plastic color is "hot" enough. Red is the worst, but I`ve had problems with yellow, blue, and black as well. You might be able to use a primer/sealer to prevent this if this is the case. Advance and Pep Boys carry a primer sealer in a can by Duplicolor. Don`t use Duplicolor on the new Revell kits though, as it will etch the plastic.

As for your second question, can`t help you there. I have always used spray cans! :biggrin:

That compressor is alright if you just want to paint little parts but, if you want to paint quite a few parts at the same sitting then I would recommend a compressor with a storage tank, that way it only runs when the air runs low, I find they are more controlable, pressure wise.:2cents:

You're probably looking at the ones geared more towards the low volume user, Iwata makes units with tanks.
Bottom line is, you can get a more mainline brand with a tank for close to the same price as a Badger without a tank. And the mainstream one will work if you just set it up with the right add ons.

Back to the colour question. TS-26 is not a very opaque paint in my experience. The undercoat has to be very white if the surface is going to pure white. So I'd suggest if your topcoat of TS-26 came out off white then you need further coats of white primer to give it a really stark white base. Dunno what the white primer you used is like, I use GSI Creos Base White 1000 and find it covers extremely well.
