Did some engine, chassis and suspension work so far. This build wont be as good as the other 612s though.:p

VQ30DETT--That is the Revell of Germany 612 Scag.
It's a really nice kit if you get a good kit. Otherwise some of the kits have some warpage. Nothing some heat can't take care of.
I bought two so I could snag an engine for my 550/575 build.

Just a thought (I'm gonne do it my 612 if I ever get to build it). Did some of the interior last night.
Airbrushed some flat black over canned german gray. Is airbrushed flat black supposed to be like charcoal?

Hey, looking good! Yeah, true flat black from an airbrush can sometimes look like charcoal. You might be spraying with too much pressure or too little paint. Try applying the paint with less pressure and more flow, and it should even out. :)

Well I think I fixed the problem with the seats now.

I'm now thinking about painting the body in Tamiya's acrylic. I will probably mix gunmetal with chrome silver or aluminium to get a sort of light gunmetal. Then spray some Future for a clear coat.

Heres pics of just gunmetal on a spare rx7 bumper with Future brushed on, most likely when I spray the Future it will come out better.(needs lots of coats to get shiney)

Yeah, skip the Future!

I used it for a couple of years for clearcoating bodies, but I found that when applied thick enough to polish out, it almost always cracked, crazed, or hazed somewhere. It's simply not designed to be applied thickly.

Tamiya Clear acrylic, on the other hand is terrific stuff for overcoating bodies. Yeah, it's alot more expensive than Future (for one body it may cost you, like $3!)- but it's more than worth it. Use it with Tamiya acrylic thinner, as it goes on much smoother.

Also, one of the really great things about using Tamiya acrylics is the ability to color mix. Cobra Colors has a nice list with pics of colors Ferrari's are currently availible in (look in the online store). None should be very hard to mix up. Gun metal would look great- but there are others the Scag would look sharp in, too.

firstly, tamiya already has a light gun metal in TS cans; it's what I used on my boomerang and was easy as pie to lay down smoothly.
secondly, i fixed my bonnet closure by sanding down the top of the "pins" that the bonnet pivots on. seems to have done the trick.
i'll get pics up when i get home tonight.

Well damn, I will have to go the hobby shop either way for the tamiya clear or canned light gunmetal. The problem is that its pretty far and I'm lazy to go there. So I will test to see if the future will haze, crack, etc when I polish with scratch x in light to medium coats.

Well, actually MPWR said what I was going to say...why the future as clear??!?! but I won't bother now ;)

As for the acrylics, I don't see why not...

I had just the same problem with the bonnet closing on this one. I seem to remember shaving a little off the inside curve of the hinge to make it fit but still couldn't get it to stay closed by itself properly. I ended up sticking a small piece of double sided clear adhesive tape at the front where the catch would be.......................and then completely forgot about it and didn't push it down for the pictures. Doh!!!!!

the circled bits are the bits i sanded cos i figured that the hood didn't close because the top of these points didn't line up with the bottom side of the bonnet.
the cruddy sketch shows (in blue hatch) the part of the dog-leg pin that i sanded.

thanks drunken monkey for the info. I think my problem with the hood is that its a little warped in the front, I will post pics in the morning.

actually, i think that i also did a bit of "hot bending" to help the front lip sit down better, AS WELL as a little bit of sanding of the underside of the engine bay surround just to get it to sit that little bit lower. All in all though, it's the sanding of the pins that helped the most, the rest was just fine tuning the seating of the bonnet.

Alright this is my problem as of now. The hood is a little warped. How would I fix this without any fire?

i don't think the hood/bonnet is warped.
i'm sure if you press down on it, it'll fit without having to bend.
if this is the case then it, like mine, is/was a problem with the pins.
give them a sand and see if it makes a difference.
it doesn't take much to make a difference.
looking at the pics, i'd say sand the pin on the side that sits too high cos it looks like the hood itself is sitting too low at the base of the windscreen.

also, check the fit when you put the engine bay surround in as well cos the part near the windscreen doesn't sit as low as it should either which again affects the hood seating.

i don't think the hood/bonnet is warped.

hmm, then you're right.
the hood doesn't seem to be curved enough across the top.

i've got another 612 that i want to build.
i'll go dig that out and see what's going on in there and if i have the same problem in that kit.

Mine was like that too! Just a little gentle bending it diagonally did it for me - no heat needed or you may go too far.

You could try just bending it, but plastic tends to gradually revert back to it's original position... Try boiling some water in a kettle, then let it stop boiling, and start dipping the part in the not-boiling water for a few seconds at a time. After each hot-dip, shape it a little in the right direction, then dip it in cold cold water to "set" the bend.
Repeat as necessary!
