I have a 1995 talon esi (2wd) with a bad engine. I need to know what engines will replace it. will it accept turbo and AWD engines? also what is the differance bettwen a 6 and 7 bolt engine?

The 7 bolt crankwalks more frequently and the 6 bolts came stock with beefier internals. The only engine it would be realistic to swap in is the 420a, just what you have go in there now. The turbo engines would be a tough swap and would cost a lot. This topic has been covered thoroughly, you should try a search before you ask a question. BTW, welcome to AF.

Not trying to be an ass, but if you have to ask that question an engine swap is not for you.

Nothing. I said i wasn't trying to be an ass but 90%+ people who say they are gonna do a swap of a 4g63t into a 420a car never do it based on the price of everything and all the work involved. If your gonna do it more power to you, and good luck.

You should source out engines at wreckers. You'll find the 420A engine in 95-98 Eagle Talons non turbo esi, Eclipse RS and GS, Avengers, and Sebrings. You can get a better price if you tell the wrecker that you are calling from a repair shop and the engine is for a customer. Just make sure you O.K. this with the shop that you are going to get the swap done at in case they decide to call. I'm doing the exact same thing to my girlfriends car right now. Expect to pay $1000 Canadian for an engine with120,000 km, $1200 for 100,000km. Usually with a three month waranty.

Damn you Canadians. LOL. 1000 Canadian... 100,000km... what the hell?!?! Just joking man... love all around.

A basic engine swap will probably cost more than just selling it and getting a new car. Or pull it and fix whatever is wrong with it. What's the problem?

The Talon Esi I bought for my girlfriend has what sounds like to me, a loose wrist pin or the piston skirt has gone, or maybe the rod on the crank. Yet it still runs strong. So after I bought it I drove it home and parked it since. It's fairly quiet up to 1500 rpms, metal slapping sound between 1500 and 2000, goes quiet again after but I never pushed it past 2500 rpm. (420a motor)

i wouldn't drive it anymore until you figure out what the problem is...you might just be saying goodbye to a motor.

Ya, I haven't even started it up since I got it home. Any ideas from what I've said as to what the problem might be? How much clearance is there between the valves and piston on the 420a motor? It sounds as if there is nothing wrong with the head. Got my fingers crossed at least.
