Blowing white smoke

I have a problem with my in-law's '97 PA. It was ran hot, no coolant in radiator and then wouldn't start. No one noticed any smoke coming out the exhaust.
Replaced water pump, was source of slow leaking, but not enough to puddle under the car. Or maybe Dex-cool just doesn't puddle well? While down doing W.P., decided to replace the Cam Position Sensor too, thought it was source of non-starting issue. Lot's of gas smell but no ignition. Cleaned sparkplugs, very wet with gas, spun engine over to clear cylinders. Started up engine and lots of funny smelling white smoke!
Read several threads on forum about plastic intake plenums melting/leaking, suspect this is cause for white smoke. I've got zero pressure on coolant system, but can't hear air leaking. Any sure ways, other than teardown, to confirm intake manifold is problem?

HotZ28,
Thanks for the info. I think I'm going to go the "buy a aftermarket intake," I don't have the time to rebuild a flawed intake. Thanks again.

Look on ebay for "Buick intake manifold" and you will see several options available for new & redesigned intakes for about $100.00.
