My 89 xj 4.0L inline six will not start ever since it got cold here in Michigan. Checked everything the manual told to do but still no progress. It has been sittin for a lil over a month while i did some axle work and some other odd and ends. I started it every couple days just to start it but as soon as the real cold came wouldn't start.Pretty confident its nothin to do with the fuel after a couple of tests i ran but still at a loss on what could be causing it not to start. Any suggestions?

Could the egr cause it not to start? Because that seems to be stuck in poisition.

I don't know about the EGR valve, I would think it would still start.
What are the symptoms of it not starting? Does it crank at normal speed? Does it try to start but fail? How about a bit more detail?

Sorry about that. Yes it does crank at normal speed and some times it trys to start but then others doesn't even do nething. I've tried spraying some starting fluid but that did absolutly nothing didn't even jump when sprayed....It seems like the more i try to start it the more it wants to start but i was out there for about 3 hours tryin to start it and never started

So since the starting fluid didn't do anything, fuel delivery probably isn't your problem. My guess is that there's no spark. Check your plugs/cap/rotor, and also for output from your coil.

hello, the 4.0L engine is very simple it needs gas air and spark, sometimes the computer goes bad, people this is a computer that
is made to last so many starts and stops. and when it gets cold up
there it may kill this faster. check the battery for 14 volts. or it cranks
fast, now pour small amount of gas into trottle body, and crank it
over,if it starts it is the computer that is bad , because computer tells injectors to open and to close, depending on what engine is doing at the time.
