AX4N Transmission Problem

I have a 97 Taurus with the AX4N in it. The car has 118,000 miles on it. I bought this car with 88,000 miles on it and I changed the fluid and filter. I've never had a problem with it except the 2nd gear jerk that everyone talks about. The other morning I took the car to the store a couple miles away and it ran fine, no jerking or slipping of the transmission, just ran like a new car would. The same day in the afternoon I was going to go some place with the car, so I started it up and stuck it in gear, and NOTHING!
Does anyone have any ideas? I never knew a transmission just stopped working without any signs. I can stick it any any gear any and rev the engine up and it doesn't even grab at all. Is there any switch that would need changed. The shift linkage works when I move the columb shifter.

I kind of figured. It's at the Ford garage right now. I still haven't heard anything back from them but as soon as I do I'll post it. If you don't mind me asking; how much did it cost to get your transmission rebuilt?
