Ticking noise

When i first turn my car on it makes this ticking noise. Its my valve springs dose anyone know how i can stop that noise besides getting another head.

add oil might help that or take off vlave cover and get a feeler guage and tighten them to spec and see what happens then let us know....

How would i do that.

the one tihing i forget is, is the motor suppose to be cold or warm. can someone find that out cause i dont got my book with me

1 get a feeler gauge
2 find the specs
3 put the feeler gauge to the specs
4 loosen the tightening nut so you can turn the screw up and down to adjust the height.
5 slide the feeler gauge in between the rocker arm and the valve and tighten the screw until you feel a slight drag on it
6 then tighten the nut down to lock it at that height. torque it if you want

where do i buy a feeler gauge and how do i find specs
is the feeler gauge just for my car 89 civic or just a feller gauge in general.

The engine is supposed to be cold. do it sometime when you havent driven it for hours, or first thing in the morning.

A feeler gauge is just a bunch of thin strips of metal. each strip has a number on it like .020, .0062...etc thats the thickness of the strip itself. It probly only costs a couple of bucks at your local hardware or automotive store. The retaining nuts are 12mm, use a box wrench so you can tighten the nut while holding onto the screwdriver making sure it doesnt move back out of spec.

The specs (this is for a sohc zc, im sure its exactly the same for your engine, i'd be amazed if its not) are:
Intake valves: .007-.009" (.17-.12mm)
Exhaust Valves: .009-.011" (.22-.27mm)

OK well do you know any websites that have pictures of this cause i get what your saying just dont want to go out there and ripp it all apart and then mess up.

do you know what the rocker arms are? do you know what the valves look like? if you know what both of those look like then you should see what we are talking about. try and look at it first

well just to let you know i had to replace the headgasket. And get my head shaved. so yes i do know what it looks like. i did it all myself and it runs good still making that noise like before though

well if you blow the headgasket and warp the head then am i spose to just drive like that aaaaaaaa..... no so i replaced it.

dude your wasting money on a motor probably isnt worth fixing what I am saying...better to just drop in a new motor of any d series depending on your budget

make sure when you do your valve lash adjustment, that the piston is TDC on the compression stroke for each cylnder you do.

You guys have probably confused the hell out of him. Hell you all have me confused.

Do not attempt to do the valve adjustment, without a chilton handy, or other online resource that pertains to your car. Make sure you have some kind of visual descriptions in whatever it is you review.

For me the majority of my ticking comes from the injectors.
