Back-Up Lights

My backup lights have stopped working. All my other lights work. I have checked the fuses and the bulbs and they are okay. Someone suggested that switch on the transmission popped out. Where is the switch? Another person said it was in the computer. The computer was replaced in January 2005. I paid almost $4000 to have my vehicle fixed because I had a stop and start problem with all idiot lights going on and off. The new computer did not fix the problem. They then replaced all the coils for the spark plugs. That did not fix the problem. They then replaced the catalytic converter and that fixed the problem. Between the repair and the car rental I put out over $7000. The shop is now being investigated by the AZ Atty Gen's Office of Consumer Affairs. Has anyone had problems with backup lights? This is a 2000 Mercury Grand Marq with 100,000 miles on it. BTW, I also wrote to the President of Ford and received no answer. The vehicle was at the shop for five months.

I don't know for sure on the 2000 model but on my 86 the backup lights are controlled by the neutral safety switch under the dash but on your it could be on the transmission since alot of the newer vehicles are going with alot more electronics in the transmissions.
