yeah i had thought about the valet thing, but I've turned it on and off many times, and it doesn't APPEAR to do anything. Just thought it was kinda strange that there was an on/off switch there. and good point rendog24

maybe it's just the arming switch, and wont actually turn the alarm off. On that note, I bought the car used a couple a months ago, and I know it has keyless entry(dont have the remote:() but does it have an alarm?cause when i was up under the dash, i found a black box the said shock sensor...... along with lots of other alarm-esq type wiring. I dunno... i didn't know if the 98 EX came stock with an alarm. And I know its not an aftermarket thing, because that is a pic of someone else's car that I found on the net(I have street glow neon blue pedals:D) so when i saw this pic with the switch in the same spot iwas like

Most valet switches on cars go in that same spot if installed by a shop like circuit city or best buy. If you don't have the keyless entry remote, then you probably have an alarm on there too. If this is the case, that valet switch isn't going to do anything unless you arm the alarm with the remote.
On a side note, I'd trace the wires to see where it goes and what it's attached to.

It lets you turn on valet mode which lets you use the features of the alarm (locks, trunk release, etc) without actually arming the alarm. And it can turn off automatic arming of your alarm so you can get gas or wash the car. And on a lot of alarms, it is used to disarm the alarm if you lose the remote.
