ok i have an SVT and i am wondering if there is a turbo sys for it, if there is twin turbo that would be even better.
im just starting to mod my svt if there is an website that deals in mostly perfomance for the contour could you tell me?
thx

rebuild it with a 3.0l block from a taurus, lower the compression and SC it.

definetely not! Because the Vortech is a centrifugal style supercharger it makes hardly any power under the curve, which means negigable torque improvement. :disappoin I mean, boost doesnt even kick in until like 5,000 rpm's and doesnt reach full boost until redline. Where is the fun in that? Get a T-28 ADC turbo kit. Youll be making FULL boost by 2,800 rpm's and about 60 more ft lbs of torque compared to the Vortech. Makes higher numbers than the Vortech too. Of course, they dont even make the Vorcrap anymore due to its 100% failure rate.
No they dont make a twin turbo kit, nor would it be logical too due to packaging issues. Makes no more power than a single turbo kit anyways. Why do you think the twin turbo supra owners convert to single? :smokin:
www.arizonadynochip.com is the place where you can buy a turbo kit.

Yes you can, as long as you have the 2.5L already. Not the whole engine though. Just the block and heads. As I always recommend, check out contour.org if you want more info. Everything in regards to 3.0L swaps have been discussed 'ad nauseum.' I think close to 100 people now have swapped a 3.0L over there including myself.

come take a ride in my turbo tour and youll think its a night and day difference. A 3.0L Vorteched SVT at Spring Zing last year made 340 whp, and only a mere 269 wtq. A T-28 turbo 2.5L makes more torque than that with half a liter of displacement. Of course, my 3.0L T3/T4 Contour made 410 wtq. Even a T3/T4 2.5L crushed the Vortech with 380 wtq. You base you results on the butt dyno, and ill base mine on an actual dyno. Dyno plots dont lie. Vortech makes significantly less torque and overall power under the curve.
btw...for reference
Turbo T-28 2.5L
http://www.geocities.com/demonsvt/ChrisDyno.txt
Vorteched 2.5L...just starts to make more power at 4,200 rpms. (where is the snooze smiley?) Btw, naturally aspirated 3.0Ls make more torque than this. :screwy:
http://www.ctamotorsports.com/gtadynofiles/vortechdynooct0502.jpg
Look at the torque on the turbo 2.5L. At 2,500 rpm's its already at 200 wtq! It makes power almost instantly and at 3,000 rpms its at about 274 wtq. Meanwhile, the Vortech is still putting along waiting to spool up.
If somebody made a roots style supercharger, then torque numbers would actually be comparable.

Because your telling this guy to build a low compression supercharged motor instead of a turbo motor. What benefits from going this route? Youll now lose horsepower, boatloads of torque, power under the curve, and most importantly, reliability. The Vorcrap is absolute trash. 100% failure rate. Its a loss in every aspect.
The Vortech can be fixed to make reliable, but out the door its more expensive than the ADC kit. Theres nothing wrong with that if you want a dyno queen and a dog until about 4,000 rpms. You want the guy to have a fun daily driver, and imho its a bad suggestion when the turbo kit is a better option. Read the complaints from the people from contour.org that have the Vortech. Its all there. Im not trying to tell him off, Im just posting hard facts and why my opinion is completely different.

The Vortech is the only supercharger available for the Contour/Cougar. Like I said earlier, if they made a roots style supercharger then it would be a whole different story and would be vary comparable to the ADC kit. As close as your gonna get is the roots style Kenne Belle from the 3.0L Escape however it will not fit on a Contour/Cougar due to hood clearance.

well for the ZX2 i kinda HAVE to, the Gude kit is a POS ans focus-power wants 10k

and thats what some people do. A couple people on CEG have built their own FI (turbo) kits from scratch. They certainly dont make near the hp/tq as the ADC turbo kit, but it is a cheaper option for people who want a increase in power. However, I was directing the Vortech comment towards your buddy's car since thats obviously what hes running and im assuming your telling JimR to get a Vortech since thats all that exists and youve had exposure to on a Contour. To me, the Vortech's power is too linear and doens't suit my needs, but thats just my opinion. No need to get all bent out of shape. :sunglasse Building a custom roots style supercharger thats big enough to package under the hood and out performs or equally to the ADC kit will require a ton of money and R&D but certainly is possible if your funds are endless.
Im not trying to bash you man. Your one of the few that give a lot of valuable info to the Contour guys on this board. Im just telling you what I know and why thats my opinion. Dont take it personally. :)

not as fast as you'd think, contours are very hard to launch with that much power.

got that right. Youll have to upgrade to a SPEC stage III clutch which is very unforgiving. It has either no engagement or instant engagement which makes for a very difficult launch to pull a good 60' time since the clutch cant be ridden at all.
On the highway though, its a monster. I pulled a stock 01 Cobra like it was standing still with 10 psi. I think I put about 3-4 carlengths on him just in 3rd gear alone.

the 2.5L in the probe and the contour have nothing in common. Packaging is extremely tight in the contour, so a twin turbo kit certainly isnt going to be a bolt on a kit. I would guess at least $10,000, if not more in fabrication just to make it work plus the price of a high quality twin turbo kit which will probably run another $7K. Where would you even place the second turbo? Not to mention, on this motor, twin turbo kits are just worthless. Actually, in my honest opinion, make that any motor. Theres absolutely ZERO benefit other than the pimp factor. :2cents:
