Custom air intake

I'm considering making a custom air intake for my civic, but I'm not sure how to go about it. I personally don't understand the whole cone shaped filter, and I'm worried about the placement if I were to install one. I was thinking of keeping my original box, but putting in a K&N, and widening the tubes running in and out of it. Does anyone think this is a good idea, or should I just put a cone filter on it? If I go with a cone, where is the most effective place to put it (I was thinking of dropping in down in the area next to the battery if there's room, I haven't really poked around yet)? Thanks all!!!

All things considdered, I would say just buy an intake... The cone shaped filter just aids in air flow, due to the increased surface area of the filter. As far as placement goes, if you remove your stock filter box, that's the perfect place to mount the filter. Here's a link for making you're own cold-air intake (this isn't for a 4th gen, but the process could probably be adapted):

Here's another Q for ya
My local import shop has a bar that goes across the rear of the car between the two shocks, but this bar in underneath the car. I can get it pretty cheap because up until I brought my car in to show them my muffler and suspension and they tried to fit it to my car, they had no idea what car it was from. How much does the lower strut bar really do, and is it worth getting if I don't have the top or any front ones and had no real plans for picking them up. I can get it for about $80 CDN that about $45 yankie.:flash:

you can get a lower tie bar off ebay for around $40, it'll help in the handling of your car by preventing body roll. it will improve your handling over stock, but if you throw the tops in you'll have a great handling car.

I heard it is a bad idea to get the lower one if you don't have both tower bars, I heard you car will slide out or something more.
And personally I would stay away from anything off eBay. That stuff is not good quality and isn't even made to fit your car. Anything that is adjustable isn't good. Go with Neuspeed, they make damn nice stuff, and theres is all welded one piece bars that are perfectly made for our cars.

I would totally agree... E-bay is crap (most of the time) and Neuspeed whips ass!
