Tamiya P/E type of metal used?

Does anyone know what type of metal Tamiya is using for their P/E sets?

i've got some Carrs Metal black for Nickel Silver, doesn't do a thing for Tamiya P/E but works just fine on SMS etc..

Did search, but didn't find anything to help

Yep, that's the stuff.

Is there anything I can use to make it turn black, as I rang the supplier for Carrs metal black in the UK, and they say stainless steel cannot be turned black with chemical by carrs.

Or failing that, what metal primer in the UK can I use to make X18 stick, or any idea on how to paint the P/E parts... Didn't think I'd have a problem, but appears I'm limited on options.

Tamiya metal primer isn't sold in the UK, Carrs metal black products do not work, any other ideas?

Edit, done a search. I'm off down to halfords to see if I can get some metal etch primer.. I can but only try.

Yup, etch primer is the stuff. Works fine for me on all photo etch, although I've never specifically tried Tamiya's PE or primer. Duplicolor automotive etch primer straight from the can is what I use. Just scuff the surface first and away you go. I find a thick wet coat is best, lets the etching part do its bit.
