Alright I'm going to order a greddy sp performace cat back exhaust system for 529 at the local import store. Good price?Good exhaust? The install should take just about an hour right? I'm doing it myself with a friend.

SP ownz :)

Even an hour is pushing it. Though sometimes stuck bolts slow you down. Good luck man.

yeah just ask jon about how stuck bolts slow you down. then ask him about a 165 pound italian kid hanging from a breaker bar in mid air in a pit didnt even help. bolts are a bitch, soak them in pb blaster and do it while the car is hot, sure you may take the chance of a nice burn mark but if your not a pussy and can deal with it then it will make things a little more easy on you.

Great choice. I myself have the Greddy Evo and I wouldn't trade that exhaust for any other exhaust system.:D

The only thing is that you're paying as much as a stainless exhaust would be. Other than that, you can't go wrong with the SP.

yes.. rick hung off of my car and couldn't bust a bolt. Finding a hydraulic lift or a pit is your best bet to get it done in 1hr.

be sure to have a fresh can of WD-40

I just found out I have access to a dremel tool that has a type of saw on it so I will just cut off the rusted bolts. Plus I'm using a hydraluic lift to put the car up. Good times are a comin:licker:

It's real nice. Not like any of those fart cans out there. The only installation problem I had was with the top bolt where the CAT connects to the mid pipe. That fucker took me about 15 minutes to unscrew.:flipa: Other than that the installation was easy. Shouldn't take you too long. Just don't do it outside on a hot sunny day in August like I did.:hehe: If you don't have a garage to work in, do it in the shades.

Not necessarily, just that if you lived in an area that had bad winters (ice and road salt to deal with) or places with a lot of rain (south Florida, Pac. Northwest) you might end up with a rusty pipe or a hole in your exhaust earlier than expected. It's just when you're paying $500+ for an exhaust, I'd want it to be stainless. That's all.

Good point and since I live in Connecticut we do get snow. What are some types of stainless steel mufflers?

ct sucks... everything from header to muffler is all rusty and ugly on my greddy. not to mention the nickel sized hole in the resonator... thats a different story though.

Actually most every aftermarket muffler is stainless. It's just the piping that isn't.

If I'm correct, Thermal R&D (http://www.thermalrd.com) makes all stainless exhaust systems.:)

Thermal, DC, some tanabes, and others are stainless

I don't think I like tanabes because I've heard that they are very ricey, only what I've heard. The Thermal though sounds nice but I can't seem to locate a price. Anyone have a thermal exhaust either a classic or stealth. Which exhaust is closest to performance and sound of a greddy. Oh and last question is with a greddy sp is it how long do you guys think until it rusts out?:sun:

What do you mean by "ricey"?

It all depends on where you live with rusting. I know a guy in Florida who's exhaust developed a hole in a year and a half. Then again, I know several people where I live who have had their mild steel exhausts for two years+ and they haven't had a problem.

It's not a huge deal...I wouldn't obsess over it. My exhaust isn't stainless. It's just that if you are paying that much money I'd want something that would be sure to last a while. Especially considering that Thermal stainless systems go for somewhere in the high $400 price range I believe.

Right thats how much a new greddy sp exhaust system goes for. Maybe the thermal would be better for me. Does anyone know of any web sites that show dyno results with a thermal on?

if you get a mild steel exhaust like myself just buy a can of ceramic spray paint and when you rub something or even if you dont every once in a while just hang under the car and spray over the tubing to prevent rust and make another layer. simple as that.

It's great~!! Please CLEARLY explain what u mean by ricey??!!

h82lose
06-05-2002, 08:23 AM
Ok what I meant by ricey is that a lot of people around in a town next to me that I go to have tanabes exhausts. From what I've heard when they drive around they are very loud and annoying. These people put nothing but the exhaust, some rims, and then those nasty nozzle lights on their car and they think they're all big and bad. They annoy the crap out of me.

I believe what u heard was tanabe racing M and they are suppose to be loud due to their designs. I bet u've never hear a tanabe hyper in person cuz it's not annoying at all. I've heard a greddy sp on a 94 accord and it's a little bit louder than my hyper. However, it's a good exhaust and pleazz don't use the word "ricey" on tanabe.

oh, and forget about getting thermal cuz you are not gonna like it if u think tanabe racing M is annoying or ricey from ur point of view. I've heard a thermal on a civic myself and I think those n1 style exhaust, such as apex n1, hks hiper, tanabe racing m..etc, are all sound almost the same (I mean loud). But, they gain the most power.

If u want a quiet one, you can also check out apexi ws (or tanabe hyper). Many people in this forum have it and they all seem happy with it.:D

Alright I'm sorry I shouldn't generalize all tanabes are loud and annoying or "ricey" just ignorance on my part. I'm going to order the greddy sp tomorrow for 529 and then when it comes in I'll put some coating on it to inhibit rust. So how long do some of your exhuast last meaning cat back or just muffler.
