'86 200sx turbo

drove by a local dealer today... found an extremely clean 200sx turbo. 2.0L... 5-speed. approx 130k on it... interior and exterior are immaculate. drove the car and i was highly dissapointed. the boost gauge didn't work, the speedo didn't work... fuel gauge didn't work, clutch was about gone, and on top of that, the car was a turd! i know there had to be something wrong with it because i came back and pointed out all the things wrong with it and the dealer quickly knocked $1000 off of the sticker (down to $1400)... what were these cars rated HP wise because i know that lil car with a turbo 2.0L should have laid some mad tire. dont' get me wrong it ran fine... it would chirp the tires on the 1-2 change, and on the 2-3 change (Barely) but i was just dissapointed. anybody have any advice or help ?

its pretty old so you wouldnt expect it to be as fast as an s15 or s14 if i was you i would of got it, what car do you drive now?? if it a high powered car thats probably why you noticed a significant difference.

ive never driven an s13 ive only driven my mums comodore and my dads van my dads van is SSSSLLLLLLOOOOOWWWWWW my mums car goes pretty hard being a v6 at about 260hp, when i get in an s13 for the first time i wont be expecting much from it i think it will be a bit faster than my dads van so if its that slow it wont bother me ill be just as much in love with em as i am now even if they are slow....

I drive an 87 TII rx7 yeah its fast. i was just asking what the car was rated HP wise... because it couldn't have been much... even tho it was a turbo 2.0L

Just because it's a 2 liter turbo doesn't mean it;s has high horsepower, the S2000 was 240hp in a 2 liter, the SE-R SpecV is 175hp from a 2.5 liter, so it changes from car to car.

a quick guess for me would be about 150, thats the sohc isnt it?? see your rx7 probably has 260 or something thats more than 100hp most small cars have a lil over 100.

Yea but since you said it having 150hp, thats about what the S13's put out. Anywho, quick search here's all the engine's that came in the S12's. I think the FC's were more like around the 250hp range.

Thats all the engines used in S12's. There isn't any CA20s as far as I know, thats where the SR comes in.

From 1982-1983 the 200sx used the 222E with 102HP@5200rpm and 129ft.lbs@2800rpm.
From 1984-1985 the 200sx used the CA20E and CA18ET (turbo). The CA20E making 102HP@5200rpm and 116ft.lbs.@3200rpm. The CA18ET was making 120HP@5200rpm and 134ft.lbs@3200rpm.

There are two basic sizes in turbochargers. You have the Trim (minor wheel diameter/major wheel diamter) and you have the A/R which is the area/radius. Its basically the area of the inlet scroll divided by the radius from the center of that area, to the center of the turbine shaft. The FI forum should help you learn turbos (not very in depth, but basics) This pic should help, follow what i said to the picture to understand it.

Whenever you hear A/R or Trim, it is mostly talking about a type of forced induction wether it be turbo or supercharger...

the SR20DE's we got were in sentras and FWD 200sx's. Plus the NX2000 i think. We never got the SR20DET and most people never think of swapping in a non turbo SR into a 240 so thats probably why im not that familar with the engine..

well its a 2.0L ... non-intercooled SOHC 4-cylinder. my 7 is only about 160~ horsepower. but it'd whack any honda i run into .... lol

I think its jsut the fact that you are so used to other higher powered cars. And obviously something was wrong with the car. So maybe it wasnt to its full potential.
