Does anyone know how to convert BHP into U.S horsepower, or are they pretty much equivalent? Or is it different names for the same thing?

they are different names for the same thing, the B just stands for Brake.

Most European countries use DIN horsepower which is a touch different. It uses a different formula since tq is most often measured in Nm over there.
The net result is very similar, for instance a BMW that I had was advertised at 170 hp in the states, but 168 in Europe. Consider it the same, but it is slightly different.
