well to start off ... i dont know what to do.. i had this problem before with my car ... but i cant remember how to fix it..
My RPM will stay at 1500 and wont go down.. when i drive it will go between 1500 n 2000 up and down... and in the morning its hard to start the car, i changed the oil .. because i was getting 3000K but that didnt help.

No, i know that when its cold it would do that.. I've had that before.. but what I'm trying to say is, that it will never go down, It will always stay at 1500-2000 and I'm workin on it, but if you guys can help me with any clues or anything let me know. Thank You.

Maybe fool with the idle screw? Check and see if any vaccum hoses are pinched/Leaking, thats what i did but still nothing.
Mine goes away when its warm which baffles me, but urs sounds like its a leaking vaccum hose.

I check everything out at a friends shop, and i took it to a computer scan, and the scan said that my COOLANT TEMPERATURE CIRCUIT is bad, but at the shop i lifted the car and my flex pipe on the exhaust is rippen apart, it still sounds normal but it is leaking bad, i dont know if that could be the problem, but maybe it is. I got the temperature circuit am i am workin on it now, but the engine is hot so i have to wait for it to cool down and for the coolant to cool down also. Does anybody think that the flex pipe could also be 1 of the reasons??????

Any idea if that could be the source??

I am having that same anoying problem with mine. I too checked for vaccum leaks, replaced my fast idle valve, messed with the throttle screw and its still bounces. When it does stay settled it stays at about 1200 RPM as well. I have run out of ideas.

Ive read the faq for this problem, theres a huge thread on it, but its not helping.....

I dont think it will cause damage but I dont like it regardless

I cleaned my EGR Valve and it helped, now it only does it 70% of the time. But its not gone completely, I suggest trying it out.

If anyone here can give me a writeup on cleaning my IACV then plz let me know, or just let me know if coolant is going to spray or leak everywhere so im aware when i do it.
Thanks

I have a 1994 Si and the rpm started bouncing....continued till the car began to misfire and catalytiv converter got cherry red....a leak was found in the manifold and the washer replaced 1/10/06....that fixed the bouncing etc. Just driving in this morning 1/18/2006..it started missing and backfiring again, catalytic converter cherry red again.....whats going on, anyone else ever had this problem? Car is also overheating on standing still.

Anything coming out your tailpipe, like soot?

yes...a whole lot of soot exudes on each rev, it finally fell dead.
