does anyone know if i burn music on a DVD-R, would the stock explorer stereo play it?

You can't play it unless you have a cd/dvd player. The standard cd player can only read cd tracks. Dvd tracks are burned closer together so they fit more info on them. The cd laser is not calibrated to read that close.
