I have a 97 Cavalier 2.2 Liter Engine.OHV and I have a problem w/ the radiator fan not cutting on. I can put a piece of wire where the relay is supposed to be and it cuts on but it stays on even w/ the car off, so if i forget to pull it, then i need a jump b/c the battery dies. i have replaced the relay and also replaced the fan itself but it still does not cut on. the temperature gauge on the console works fine and indicates when it gets hot. PLEASE, SOMEONE HELP! it's driving me nuts!

What you could do is rewire the fan and running it thru the firewall into your fuse box and wrap it around your ignition switch that way the second you turn the key the fan comes on.

how about the sensor (i forget what its called) but it tells your computer the temperature of your coolant, and once that coolant gets too warm, the computer "tells" your radiator fan to turn on, if that sensor is bad, your computer wont know the temperature, and it wont know when to turn on your fan

does your temp guage still work? i just did a little research and if your temp guage does still work, you can forget everything i said in that last post

I got the opposite problem . mine cuts in too early, it kicks in when the hoses are not even pressurized :/ my guage at max temp is half-way... i replaced the t-stat and just serviced the cooling system and it still does it.. i got good heat too.

Whats with these damn rad fans, mine wont work either, i dont wanna pump a bunch of money into it if it wont even help the problem, like sensors, thermo, coolant service etc..

i'd just run it to through the firewall and to a toggle switch. this way you can turn it on and off when you need to.

Sorry, newb question, what exactly is the firewall? Where is it located. It is on the radiator correct?

the firewall is between the gas pedals adn the engine. dunno why its called that but hey, its where you run all your electrical through to teh car.

Between the gas pedals and the engine? the throttle body u mean? So it just connect all the wiring? Im thinking of connecting the fan wires to somethin like they said so it runs normally. Which wires wud i need to use to do that? Thanks

the wiring doesnt connect to anything there. its just the place where the wiring enters the car.

the firewall is the big peice of metal that seperates the engine bay from the passenger/driver comparment...

what hes saying it to run a wire directly to the fan that is hot (has power to it) when the ignition is turned on. and run the wire through the firwall (where all the other wiring harness goes through from the battery, just to hide it so it doesnt go through the window... etc..) and connect a switch so you can turn it on when it needs to be on...

but if you dont have an idea how to do so I wouldnt bother.. fix it right.
