cobra block

I have a 97 mustang cobra and I have cash for mods I hear after 500 hp the block gives in I need suggestions on what kind of block to buy I want to make around 600 horsepower any suggestions will help

i also own a 97 cobra and dont worrie about the block it was made from a company called teksid and the block with proper honeing has taken over 2k hp the problem with the 96-98 cobra motor is the rods and pistons they are only rated at 400hp and even tho many people have more than that on them they are flirting with disaster and they could throw a rod at any time. now if you have the cash i would sudjest that since your goal is something close to 600hp before you go out and start grabing bolton's after bolton's get yourself a stroker kit modmax makes a great kit me and another cobra owner thats in my car club have the kits and they are awsome and look into geting some of the PI equip and get them ported...goodluck

I agree! The block is solid, you don't really have to worry about it. The internals are where problems occur. The best thing you can do is swap out that old crank. The stock crank is not able to handle the power you are wanting to create. Be careful on what you decide however. If you want it to be an everyday driver, you need to go with modifications that were made to go together. Bigger is not always better! It is finding the right combination to make it fast, but maintain driveability.

i think your thinking of the 5.0. ive heard that gives around 500hp.

Okay! I don't think any stock crank is made for that kind of HP, but who am I to say?
