Soundproofing the trunk

My trunk rattles a lot, mostly third eye (inside) lights and license plate. I am gonna work on getting some weather stripping for the license plates and somehow to quiet the third eye and lights, but I also was going to sound deaden my trunk. Two questions.

1 Something "inside" my trunk lid seems to rattle, I have heald down all the parts (lights and license plates) and something insode the metal area still seems to rattle, maybe the wire wraps or something, does it on my friends accord two, anyone figure out what that is?

2 I have some dynomat and my friend is gonna give me a can of some spray on brown stuff that he used, said it took care of a lot of rattls and I can always dynomat over it to make it look better. Wont this make my subs quieter since they fire against the back of my trunk? Or would this be a good thing? Thanks.

Have you made sure your spare tire, jack, tools, and everything are still fastened down good and tight? Might be something down there rattling...

rattling can happen from a variety of things.. i see harnesses hit metal which is a big nuisance... try using foam sealnt inside crevices and then dynamattingover it...
check out raamat on ebay... this guy sells this stuff once in a while, but I have it and its easy to use, super stickey , looks nicer than regular dynamat , and doesn't require heating.

The ratteling can be from you trunk popper...if you are going to use the brown stuff you might want to watch out for that so it doesnt get stuck....when you put on the dynamat it will improve you bass because less of the sound waves will be going through your trunk and more to your cabin

OMG I can't believe I forgot to check my spare tire and jack :bloated:

I will try and find some foam sound deadener but for now it's probably the brown stuff int he can, I figure I can try and spray it in all the cracks and hope it stops some rattles, if not I will be in a bad position.

It usually takes more then "spraying some into all the cracks" to stop the rattles. You first have to figure out WHERE the rattles are coming from before you can determine the best way to get rid of them. If its your trunk lid, get some expanding foam and shoot it into all the holes -- not too much as it will expand like crazy and could bubble the trunk... then slap a layer of Dynamat Extreme or any similar product over top of that once its done expanding and you cut the excess away.

If its the license plate, a small piece of foam behind if should do the trick, spoiler see where im going? What exactly is making the noise?

Like I said so far I can't figure out exactly where the sound is comming from cuz its in the trunk lid and I can't see in there, but ther eare some wires with wire wraps in there so they are probably it, dunno how to go about getting rid of them.

BTW if I do all this is ther eever a chance I will need to get behind all my soundproofing? For wiring or whatever? And if so how hard will it be?

I have a tack-on question. I have a 92 Civic, 2 12"s, and I rattle like crazy. I've isolated it to my spoiler, my rear bumper, and the entire 3rd brake light area. How do I silence my spoiler, it being outside the car? Just slap Dynamat on the deck lid? And how 'bout the rear bumper?

im getting the same problem, but my rattling is caused by the taillights vibrating against the metal. the corner pieces dont really make any noise, but the inside two rattle like crazy. ive tightened the nuts as much as possible, but some of them are stripped a little. if i were to tighten them with new nuts that held well, would that stop the rattling? or would dynamatting the back help?
