Ac removal

Okay. So my compressor shit a while back and I don't feel like paying to get a new one because it's fucking crazy expensive. Anyway. I know that removing it won't take that much weight off the car but I figure I'm not using it might as well junk it free up some room in the engine bay. Anyone know any good guides to remove this? And what else I can remove that is part of the whole ac system?

Actually removing the condensor will help with the airflow to the radiator, i think thats the biggest advantage of removing the ac. Just follow the lnes off the compressor and take em al out.

It'sthe only thing that's belt driven that is behind the engine. You might have to take of your radiator to get the condensor out, i'm not too sure cause i pulled mine when i put my front mount on.

You have to take off the radiator to get to the condenser out. It allows for alot better airflow to both the radiator and the engine. You're removing a huge blockage when air comes in through the front grill. Been looking at doing it to mine.

No, I'd do it outside cause the R134a will leak out when you cut or take off the lines. But its al self contained so you don't have to block and lines going to the rest of the car.

This is what I'm best at: rip and pull. One line leads to another.
You'll need to depressurize the system first. Or, at least, it's less messy. There's a schrader valve on the top right of the bay with a blue screw top on it. You can recover the stuff rather than venting it if you like your ozone layer. Shops will do it, sometimes for free. If not, just use a flathead screwdriver. The condenser, IIRC, is a silver canister to the bottom right of the bay. You can clean up some of the mess of the engine bay by removing the AC lines. Rip and pull. Some of them are hard to access and may not be worth it. Your call. A lot of the AC crap for weight reduction is also located under the dash. Good luck.

Yea the heater core will be under the dash, that would be good to remove too, maybe a pain in the ass tho.

But what about the actual condensor itself. Wouldn't you have to remove the rack&pinion or driver's cv axle to get to it? I've tried to remove it before but it's so far up in there :rolleyes:

I think your able to slide it straight up and out from what Ive read. Its a tight area but its been done

Anyone know where the bolts are holding it to the car? I just finished looking at it and there seem to be so many bolts attached to it I wouldn't even know where to start...

OKay I just got the damn thing dislodged but I can't get it out of the engine bay. Either go down by removing the cv axle or go up by removing basically everything. I don't know what to do!

I believe I brought it up. CV is no fun. I did it while a bunch of other ish was off the car, though. Good luck.

same with me i did it when i did my timing belt, I'd say it really not necessary to remove the compressor its only dead weight, I'd worry more about the condensor.

Well I already removed the compressor and it's kind of just sitting there at the bottom of my engine and I don't know where to go from now. I tried to remove it from up top but I would have to removed the brake master cylinder(I think?) to get it out. So I'm thinking about going from below but I would have to pull the axle...I've never pulled the driver's axle before so not really sure where to start. I think it might be time to get some help from a shop :frown:
