moisture trap?

I have a Campbell Hausfeld 2 gal. air compressor. I don't know if I can hook up a moisture trap to this compressor....How important is it to have a moisture trap? What will happen if I don't have one and I keep painting my models without one? Will I have any problems? I live in Florida BTW.

You run the risk of moisture getting into your air line and will end up on the model in the form of droplets under your paint. . . Not a pretty sight!

Is this very likely to happen? I have never seen this in my paint before. Could I shoot just air out of my airbrush before spraying the model with the paint? Could this reduce my risk of getting moisture in the paint?

By the time I have sprayed four coats on a car body, I have enough water in my moisture trap to fill a thimble. Not much, would you say? Well, four coats represents about 30 thimble, so it is not negligible. Especially when the water spits by drops onto the fresh paint!

If you never had any issues with water in the air line before, you can consider yourself lucky to live in a dry area (Arizona?). Even then, it is only a matter of time before you see the problem, someday. Especially if you run a long air line (more than 3 feet), as moisture can condense more in the line in this case. In short, if you dn't want to use a water trap, use a short length of air line (less than 3 feet).

Well, you could do just fine with out one. That is until you go to paint a kit that you would really like to come out spectacular. That's when it's most likely to creep up on ya a spray water on your nice new paint job. . .

Ever heard of a thing called Murphy's Law??? That's the what you're dealing with by not having a moisture trap. . . lol

Well, I don 't think I can get a moisture trap for my compressor. So I guess its off to get a new compressor with an air regulator and a moisture trap. Cuz the last thing I want to happen. Is when I spray Lambo Arancio Boralias Pearl and I get moisture spit out.

So whats a nice compressor for not so much money with both a f=regulator and a moisture trap? Thanks guys!

Are you sure about this?

I don't want to put you on a wrong track or anything, but I'm pretty sure that it should be possible for you to get a seperate water trap and insert it somewhere into the system between the compressor and your AB.

I think there was a question/thread about this recently. Maybe you should check it out before you write off your current compressor and shel out for a new one :)

The moisture is created as a by product of compressing the air and I guess how much moisture you get is also a question of how "strong" your compressor is?

AB? Sorry, Im a compressor newbie apparently..lol. So all i would have to do is stick any trap on there and it should be fine? Ide much rather spend 20.00 rather than 250.00+ for a new compressor! BTW its a 2 gallon 100 max pressure compressor by Campbell Hausfeld.

Believe me, I'm a compressor newbie too :lol2:

I just wanted to give you the "heads up" before you go out and spend money you don't need to (unless you want to,of course :smile: )
