if a bone stock sti and a 2000 t/a with a catback were to race who would win. Both drivers are equally talented. The reason i ask is some kid in my school has an sti and is talking smack thinking hes got the fastest car in the lot. THANKS

2006???
Did they make any other changes other than that ugly front end?? More power??

Off the line....get ready to play catch up. Run from a roll and you will get him.

Honestly it depends how hard he wants to launch. those cars run 13.2 stock so if he launches that thing hardcore he's gona be in the 12's. i think he's gonna win this one.

The 2005 STi had 300 horse.

wait i thoguht a stock ls1 6spd could run 12.9 or faster with an experianced driver. There for wouldnt the ls1 win??

With an experienced driver MOST LS1 F-Body's will run lower 13's. Same with the STi cars.

Like I said before....
From a dig....advantage STi.
From a roll....advantage F-Body.

Times all depend on altitude. Luos runs slightly slower times due to high altitude, where I run its about 30 feet above sea level, so I would get faster times assuming everything else is equal. STI vs LS1, its going to depend on driver skill. Personally, I'd never thought this kind of situation would come up, but when the wrx was first introduced it had a fast 0-60 due to the awd system. One of my friends with an ss got his ass handed to him by one off the line, but literaly ate him shortly thereafter. Good luck if you want to run with him, make sure you practice launching first and find what works best for you.

I wish it was just slightly.

Also...turbo cars lose less power at this altitude as well. When the air is being compressed before entering the motor it helps a TON!
Turbo cars tend to lose about .5 off their 1/4 here.
N/A cars tend to lose about 1.1 off their 1/4 racing here.

Times are highly debatable. i think Ls1 cars that run high 12's are just factory freaks along with really experienced drivers. For the most part, from what i see at the track, a stock LS1 id gonna run around 13.6. my cousin has a firehawk and with a bunch of mods best he could run on 2.1 60ft times were 13.1-13.3. better tires woulda helped a bunch. i mean a lot of ppl have ran better times, but you gotta be willing to admitt that those are just freak cars and the majority aren't that fast. i think the sti would beat a stock ls1.

In the 1320, yes.

From a roll....not so much. :icon16:

can't say i've seen too many sti's race from a roll so i dunno how that would go. i don't really understand why ppl drag race from a roll doesn't that defeat the entire purpose? way i see it is that them honda guys, or any FWD car, they need to cause its there only hope due to there disadvantage on a launch, but i don't get why RWD and AWD guys do that either

from a stop rwd cars without drag rad's with just spin and go no where.. from a roll, say 20-30 km/h you most likely wont spin out half as much

Sometimes when you are just out driving around you end up in roll off races. Mostly with friends. Can't really stop on the highway and line them up.
LS1 cars tend to be fairly decent down low and up top....shouldn't matter much. It is all in the launch for the STi. As we have already stated.

From a roll Mr. Luos is right they are not all that great but the awd launches own most cars out there.

i heard if you launch those cars hard constantly they have a reputation for blowing tranny's

I wouldn't doubt it.

Well I've got a 97 Formula WS.6 (yes, formula WS.6 i find it odd too) it's rated at about 315HP and I raced a newer body STi.......i ended up losing by about 2-3.5 car lengths from a 35 roll so I'm guessing that a good driver in a LS1 could take one but off the line would definetly be tricky like previously mentioned

Why is that odd?

If the STI can launch hard, it will get the early lead but the TA will catch it by a 1/4 mile.

I raced a mod'd(exhaust/more boost/etc) EVO from a stop with my car when I had the 5# procharger(was on DRs). The kid wanted to run at the light...by the time I shifted 1~>2, it was ALL over...I had a 2 car lead easy. He creeped back up and looked over with this  look.

But then again, I don't screw around when I race. :smokin:

ws6 isn't an odd option, my brother's 87 ta was a ws6. Its just the code for the performance package.

I had to ask myself (but it was answered), "What's an STI?" Now, I learn it's a Subaru, so my question to the starter of this thread, "Which is quicker?"... WHO CARES?! A Subaru is a major maintainence nightmare. They have always been. I can only imagine how the plumbing on the turbo system can fail.

Reading magazines and rating cars is all kinds of fun. Hardly realistic, but fun, nevertheless. I submit the Subaru will not live a long life, as any V8 car usually does. Not EVERYTHING is measured strictly by road test reports. Go DRIVE the cars. For a long cruise. Then, ask yourself which one you would be able to live with over time.

WS-6 has been the option code for the performance suspension in Firebirds since '77. I understand it expanded to the entire performance package after engines became anemic.

Yea import cars cost a lot of money to maintain.i heard something about doing the brakes on an evo costing like 1500 bucks or something crazy. i think evo's and sti's are nice cars but hardly worth what dealers ask. freaking sti's go for like 35k. for 35k i could buy a used Z06. for the 35k price range theres just so many others cars that are faster. a lot of sti and evo owners will argue that hey at least my car handles well, but these same ppl never put there cares to the test in a road coarse or autocross track. in my opinion sto and evos are a waste of money and kids just get them for popularity status. half the ones i see here at the beach on sundays are all riced out with neon lights and nos KIts. its like what kind of moron buys an evo and then throws a nitrous kit on while its bone stock. the whole reason i would buya evo is because its turbo'd and has crazy potential. fast and the furious cars suck. i read some article and they tested the cars in fast and the furious 2 in the quarter miles. the evo ran like 14 flat and the eclipse ran like 15 something. guess all that bling and stereo crap really does make your car slower.
