installing xm radio...

Hey all, since my mom got her new Audi with XM radio, my dad decided he wants to put it in his 300C. What does the aftermarket installation of XM radio entail? He is mostly concerned with someone having to drill holes in his roof to mount the antennea and ripping apart the interior to run the wires and whatnot. He is also a little curious as to whether or not he would have to get a aftermarket head unit..

I think the radio has to be designed to take it .... I am not real familiar with it. I know some of the aftermarket stuff has it built in. I think the antenna is a "thru-winshield" type. You might wanna go to a dealer that sells them and look over the hardware.

XM radio without an XM ready h/u requires the little receiver. The reciever is about 3in x 3in depending on who makes it. If your h/u is XM ready then you can just use it instead. As far as the antenna, I'm not positive but I believe it is like the old car phone antennas. The ones that mount on the windshield, then you run the wire in the head liner and down the A-pillar

You can either get a new head unit that is XM ready or you can buy a small module that you can stick anywhere accessible. Personally, i would buy a new deck just cuz I would prefer to control ALL music options from my deck. As for installation, worst case, you could probably use the existing wire mounting that the stock radio uses if you don't wanna drill anymore holes. How new is the 300C? I would think Chrysler would have factory XM or Sirius ready stereos in their cars.

The 300C is amazing - touch the gas and its gone. As for the satellite radio, it was a factory option, just not on my dad's car. My dad got his car after they stopped 2005 production but before they started 2006. Beyond that, he had to have AWD, and the AWD and hemi combo is rare to begin with, let alone deal with the problem of trying to find them in that situation. Therefore he couldn't be too picky in the options that the car had. Plus, he didn't want it at the time. My mom's new car was a similar situation - difficult to find, so can't be picky with options - and it had XM, and my parents both turned out to love it.
