I just recently purchased a 2001 Sportage Limited.
There was no owner's manual in the car so the seller got me one from
KIA. The problem is that it appears to be a generic Sportage manual with no mention of the audio system so it's not much help.
The CD Player/radio dash blinks on and off and the player and radio only work for a few minutes and then flashes "code".
What does that mean? Do I have to enter some kind of code?
Can that be turned off? It's annoying the hell out of me.
Can anyone help?

check the fuses. there are two wires running to the radio. one is constant voltage, which keeps the clock and channel selection in memory, the other is powered only when the ignition is on. getting to the radio is easy on the 1999-2000, on a 2001 not so easy. As the entire black bezel across the dash, and the top of the steering wheel cover have to be removed first. Sounds like the constatnt voltage wire is being interrupted somehow, or the ground is being interrupted. my bet is to try to follow these lines with a VOM (volt/ohm) meter, after checking the fuses. I looked at the manual, it says nothing. If you want a copy, email me and I will scan mine for you, and send it electronically. I have both a 2000, and a 2001,. I also have an owners manual set for a 2001 Rio I don't need, if anyone can use it, let me know, just taking up space in the file cabinet.

When it flashes code try 1111. See if that works and let me know.

I'vebeen off the site for a while now but I sure haven't forgotten this post on the stereocode problem.
My 2001 kia was having the same problem, and when I punched in the code"1111", it worked fine up to now and that was sone 4-5 months ago ...
Thank you very much

Kool. I think that the Kia hadnt intended there to be a code in the radio. We have used that generic number in alot of Kias and it works without incident.
