general maintenance outline?

Could someone post a list of general maintenance steps one should go through when owning a car? For example, checking brake fluid, how often it should be changed, air filter, transmission fluid, etc.

That'll all be in your owners manual, and varies from car to car and driving habits.

Well, the thing is I don't have the manual to my car. Is there a general guideline that is basically the same for most cars? (I have a 1987 Mercury Grand Marquis)

Flush out the old stuff and use synthetic. :)
