air conditioner sound

when i turn on the air or the heater on my 94 sl it makes a pretty loud sound, and when im driving it kinda looses some power, is this normal?

The power loss is normal because your compressor is parrasitic, meaning it drains power from the engine when in use. But the noise is not good, what kinda noise is it ?
